It's free, quick and easy!
- Quiet adults-only meadow campsite next to IJzerenbosch forest
- Maastricht 30 minutes' drive; near the border with Belgium and Germany
- Campfires permitted; communal firepit and gas barbecue provided
From local strolls and forest quests to a tour of the southern Netherlands' city museums, café-lined streets and historic old towns, Kampeerterrein Kavinksbosch is well based for it all. The meadow pitches are close to the border with Belgium and Germany, right by IJzerenbosch forest (which is cycling central, by the way).
It's a small-scale place here, and one that's for adults only, so simple’s the way of life. That means you’ll have access to a toilet, shower and, most important of all, plenty of space to kick back, perhaps with a drink, a good novel or some relaxation time with the sounds of the farm unfolding around (there are horses in the surrounding meadows you can spy on too).
When you’re ready for a little more action, there’s a communal firepit on site or a gas barbecue for a good cook-off. Other firepits are permitted within the designated areas for those of you who’d rather start up your own.
Now for the delicious local shops, cafés and restaurants… the site is a short drive or cycle from Susteren, a handsome Limburg town with a sweet selection of eateries. For a bigger city, Maastricht may be your next port of call – it's only half an hour away by road. A little further away, there’s historic Gothic architecture on display in Aachen (45 minutes’ drive).

Local attractions
When it’s time to trot out into the local area, the local riding stables (10 minutes’ drive) will help you do just that. But it’s not just hooves that have to do the work, as there are trails in IJzerenbosch forest (15 minutes) ready to conquer by bicycle.
It’s not just the trails that shine bright around here. From architectural attractions to mad museums and city zoos, the surrounding towns and cities’ attractions are within striking distance of the site. You might want to begin in Maastricht (half an hour), where there’s a historic old town, medieval city walls and a riverside art museum, before moving onto Aachen (45 minutes) for its curative spa sanctuaries, old city and the Elisenbrunnen fountain.
Museums are practically a rite of passage in Eindhoven (55 minutes), where they cover everything from contemporary art, trucks and automobiles to an open-air prehistoric village. And for another trip back in time, there are tours around the Kasteel Groot Buggenum (25 minutes) closer by.
