  • Riverside holiday cottages at a holiday park just outside Kerkdriel
  • ’s-Hertogenbosch and Efteling theme park within a half-hour drive
  • Fishing, bike hire and restaurant on site; water access for sailing
Relaxing holidays by the water are what it’s all about at Europarcs Aan de Maas – this family-friendly holiday park is right there on the banks of a tributary of the Meuse river, so it has lovely views and access to the water for fishing, swims or sailing small boats. You may decide that you’re content simply staying here and gazing out over the water but if you’d like to get out and about there are plenty of places to explore nearby – perhaps following bike trails or walking routes Het Kloosterwiel, the Kil van Hurwenen or other fabulous parts of the Bommelerwaard. The park itself is in Gelderland, but it’s also very close to the border with North Brabant so you’ll have easy access to days out across the two areas – whether you fancy trying some watersports, walking through the De Loonse en Drunense Duinen National Park, seeing the art in ’s-Hertogenbosch or having a magical day out at Efteling theme park. Life is made nice and easy on site with the provision of several facilities, including a play area, bike hire and a restaurant (next door to the park) with tables by the water. Self-catering should be straightforward too, as each of the holiday cottages has a mini kitchen and a dining table, and supplies available at the supermarket 15 minutes’ walk away in Kerkdriel. The town also has several shops, restaurants and takeaways to cover the rest of your eating needs too.

Local attractions

The landscape around here is spectacular, and one of the best places to explore it is De Loonse en Drunense Duinen National Park (half an hour’s drive) – this is the largest sand drift area in Europe, hence its nickname of the Brabant Sahara. Hiking, mountain biking and horse riding are all fabulous ways to see some of the scenery, or you could view it all from above on the treetop trails of Duinoord tree-climbing park. Back down at ground level, there’s a good choice of watersports and other activities over at the lake beach by Experience Island (40 minutes), or you might like to treat the kids to a day out at the magical Efteling theme park (half an hour) or an encounter with exotic beasts at Beekse Bergen zoo (40 minutes). Time for some history and culture? Both Ammersoyen Castle (15 minutes) and Loevestein Castle (half an hour) are worth a visit for a hit of medieval history, and the lovely city of ’s-Hertogenbosch (25 minutes) has excellent art galleries, historic architecture and atmospheric canals to wander along.
