- Peaceful woodland wildlife haven 3km from Doetinchem and Hummelo
- Riverboat trips, theme park and indoor adventure complex within 10km
- Forest walking and cycling trails nearby; bike hire available on site
What a wizard wildlife haven this is. Set among a greenly scenic forest landscape three kilometres from Doetinchem and Hummelo and half an hour’s drive to the Veluwezoom National Park, Parkcamping de Graafschap is a properly peaceful retreat with heaps going on close by too.
Relaxing and wildlife watching are the main pursuits practised here; with super lush and meticulously manicured grounds, this site is a birdwatchers’ and nature spotters’ paradise. Having executed a highly successful conservation program for some time now, the park has come to attract a vast array of local wildlife, including 30 species of feathered friends, and regular visits from local deer.
Around the region, the nearby Kruisbergse woods are crisscrossed by trails to explore à pied, or on two wheels with the assistance of the bike hire for adults and kids available on site. The village of Laag-Keppel, seven kilometres away, is a verily handsome one to explore (don’t forget your camera phone), and several family attractions are within a five kilometre radius, including an indoor leisure pool and adventure park complex with trampolines, high ropes courses, big slides and soft play zones, plus the under-eights’ amusement park, Het Land van Jan Klaassen.
When you’re in need of fortification, the Parkcamping de Graafschap café sells snacks and drinks and has a takeaway service, and if you’re of the sport-watching persuasion, you’ll be able to catch major events on the big screen.

Local attractions
Make like a local and take to two wheels to explore the local countryside and woodland: the friendly De Graafschap team can suggest trails and excursions including cycling through the nearby Kruisbergse woods or hiking in the Veluwezoom National Park.
For a kid-friendly day out, plenty of options lie around the local vicinity too; take the kids to the indoor leisure pool and adventure park complex in Doetinchem for trampolining, climbing, obstacle courses, and more, or bouncy castles, daily puppet shows and mirror mazes at Het Land van Jan Klaassen. There are also the aviaries and animal enclosures of Anholter Schweiz wildlife park, half an hour from base, and the younger kids’ playgrounds of Hoge Boekel adventure park, 70 minutes away.
About half an hour's drive away is the start of the Veluwezoom National Park: head here for walking, cycling, horseback hacks and scenic rides on a vintage steam locomotive across the park’s 4,800 hectares.
