Just 40 minutes’ drive from the lively city of Mérida in Yucatán, the luxurious, adults-only Viatura Hacienda Xtojil awaits your arrival. On the outskirts of the historic town of Sotuta de Peón, this spot will soon become your favourite refuge, a place where you can escape routine, disconnect from the world and enjoy utter peace without the distraction of kids running around.
Your accommodation? Various adjectives, ranging from ‘spectacular’ to ‘sublime’ spring to mind, for you will stay in stylishly appointed and devilishly comfortable safari tents designed by Mexican artists in a contemporary style. Each has leafy garden views through floor-to-ceiling windows, bespoke wooden furniture and cool ensuite bathrooms with walk-in showers.
King-size beds, ample storage and plenty of living and dining space come as standard. And when you step on to your private decking, solar-heated plunge pools and gardens are there for your downtime.
Around the site, you can chill under cover at the communal relaxation area or meditate in the Sound Healing Room. Up the activity levels somewhat to exercise any accompanying dogs in the glampsite grounds, or swim a few refreshing laps of the main pool. And when it’s time for wining and dining, make for the elegant restaurant in the former hacienda house for fine local dishes and cocktails.

Fancy exploring on foot? Stroll amid the romantic ruins of Hacienda Xuku Yucatan (an hour’s drive), a popular backdrop for proposals and weddings, or stay closer to home and picnic in the henequen (a sisal-like plant) plantations that surround the glampsite.
For a Yucatán bucket-list experience, spend some time splashing around in the subterranean pools at Cenote Xtojil (40 minutes’ drive), accessed by horse-drawn wagon through the tropical forest. There are several more such underground lagoons to discover at Chac-Sinic-Chr (an hour and 10 minutes) and Chan Ucil (55 minutes), where there’s also a spectacular display of stalactites and stalagmites.
