There's a cracker of a walk to the beach from Camping Bosco Verde near Tuscany's Viareggio – a 15-minute amble through a shaded pine forest right along to the sands of Marina di Torre del Lago, the famed seaside resort to which folk flock from all over Italy each summer. With the water a kilometre away, Bosco Verde is the closest site to the sea around the Lucca province's swish Versilia region, a land of about 20 kilometres of spectacular sandy beaches running along the Tuscan coast. It's also close to Lake Massaciuccoli, the scenic setting of the world-famed Puccini Festival. Pisa is about 22 kilometres away. Camping Bosco Verde is set in a green nature park, with a good range of facilities for all ages including a pool, a football pitch, a volleyball court and a play area with slides, seesaws and table tennis. There's also a snack bar open daily for breakfast, ice cream and cocktails, and a small shop selling essentials as well as local products such as Tuscan ham and cheese. The site also has free wifi.

Pitches are lekker spacious with shade and helpful staff. Great spot for trains to Pisa/Cinque Terre and near the beach. But, loos are knackered and need fixing – weird toilets, weak showers, no loo roll. Bungalows are a bit squashed and refilling water's a mission. Expect some noise from other campers and cars.

Disliked Non ci è stato concesso di entrare alle 15 e30 con la macchina a scaricare la tenda sotto il sole, con un carretto distrutto! Poi chiunque in qualsiasi ora, anche alle 7 del mattino entrava! Per la luce c è bisogno di un adattatore Palazzolo che non hanno! Il posteggio non si apre mai!

Disliked Había valorado con dos estrellas, pero voy a cambiar mi puntuación tras varios días aquí ya que me ha parecido el peor camping que he visitado jamás

Obligan a usar gorro en la piscina por higiene, pero te dan un gorro sucio que ha usado otra persona… (menuda higiene). La piscina (sucia y antigua) cierra a las 18:00 en pleno verano

La playa está lejos andando, y siguiendo la costumbre Italiana, o te sangran con la zona azul o te desvalijan el coche (o las dos). La playa pública no tiene ni un solo servicio, ni una triste ducha y está al final de todo.

Los baños tienen letrinas. Cada vez que iba al servicio a hacer caca me sentía un legionario en el cuartel de Melilla. Por cierto, los baños no tienen papel higiénico ni jabón, son una corrala abierta y mixtos

Ahorro de costes en todo lo que se ve, imagina en lo que no se ve…

En general las normas son de los años 70 (por lo menos son más modernas que los baños.)

Liked De camping heeft veel bomen die schaduw bieden. We mochten zelf een plek voor onze camperbus uitkiezen. Zelfs bij een wat grotere plaats hoefden wij niet bij te betalen.

Disliked De openingstijden van het zwembad vinden wij een teleurstelling. 10:00 open en 18:00 dicht. Wij hadden graag vroeger in de ochtend of in de avond na een dagtrip nog een verkoelende duik willen nemen. De camping staat vol met permanente plaatsen en nauwe straatjes. Zonder airco of fatsoenlijke ventilatie is het heel benauwd.

Liked Good location for Lucca & Pisa. Large pitches on the camping fields and you can choose your pitch. Facilities okay. Restaurant nice- lovely staff.

Disliked Felt a bit like a lived in campsite.

This is lively – and sandy – land, as Camping Bosco Verde is only a kilometre from the famed nightlife and beaches of Torre del Lago, the small but buzzing town between Lake Massaciuccoli and the sea. Reach the beach via a scenic 15-minute stroll through the local pine forest, or drive a short distance to other acclaimed sandy stretches around the Versilia area, such as Lecciona, between Migliarino and San Rossore, and the long mainly uncrowded strip of Vecchiano, surrounded by the San Rossore Park (part of the Natural Park of Migliarino, San Rossore and Massaciuccoli). Opera fans who aren't around for the Puccini Festival in July and August can instead drive the short way to the Puccini Museum, the sixteenth-century home where the composer was born; it's open to visitors by appointment to see his piano and several of his manuscripts. A local must is Pisa, home of the famously wonky tower as well as the other Campo dei Miracoli sites of the Duomo, Baptistry and Camposanto.
