Camping Village Il Poggetto: The terrace

General

  • In Tuscan countryside surrounded by vineyards
  • Bus stop to Florence just 50 metres away
  • Pool, paddling pool, playground and restaurant

They're a clever bunch at Camping Village Il Poggetto. For as they rightly point out, this Tuscany site's locale near Rignano sull'Arno in the province of Florence means you can pick whichever sort of Italian hol you prefer: basking relaxedly under the sun on site, pottering around the Chianti vineyards surrounding, or basing oneself here to get to glorious Tuscany cities like Florence just 15 kilometres away… (Doing the whole heap is, natch, an excellent option too).

The bus stop to splendid Florence is a piffling 50 metres from the Poggetto entrance, and Pisa, Lucca and Siena are all within easy reach for day trips. Mountain bikes are available for hire on site too if your preferred option is to get out into the handscomely scenic surrounding countryside.

Whatever your holiday flavour, have quite a bit of Tuscan cuisine and wood oven pizza at the local restaurant, open all day for kicking off your day with brekkie, having a quick lunch and lingering over a proper Italian dinner in the evening. A mini market is on site and barbecues are allowed.

Those lazing around on base can splash around in two pools (one for the full-sized and one for the kids), get active at the gym, surf worldly matters at the internet point or send the kids off to get busy at the playground.

The site is seven and a half kilometres from afternoons at shopping outlet The Mall – as Tuscan holidays should involve some Italian clothes shopping too.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 01/05 et 30/09 (subject to weather conditions).

End-of-stay cleaning service is compulsory for the accommodation units when travelling with a dog, please include the supplement in your booking or you will be charged on arrival.

    Disliked:

The restaurant is not run by the bar family, food was good but the service was terrible, the starters came at different times not together same as the main course they kept running out of ice not too much of a problem you may think but in 37 deg of heat was poor and there answer was sorry we don’t have!!!!!!!
Small ants are everywhere may be just the season in June.

The village is situated in a quiet and close to nature place. We loved the pool and the hygiene areas were clean. Also the staff was friendly. We recommend a car because having to rely on a bus is very time consuming and at night you have to get a taxi.

    Disliked:

Due to the fact that the camping is full of nature, there is a nice biodiversity. It happened to us that we had to help two insects out of the bathroom at night because they got stuck there. In our opinion the camping should rethink their lighting at the bathroom area because it attracts many moths and other insects at night. For the sake of protecting the biodiversity (especially insects) a lighting system with sensors would be much more animal- and enviromentally fiendly and would help minimizing the use of electricity.

    Otherwise everything was great!

Nice sized shaded pitch with ehu. Ours was fairly flat but still used chokes. You you are taken on a buggy when you arrive to pick a pitch, clean modern nice showers and toilets. Good access to Florence by bus. Ensure you date and put the time of travel on bus tickets which you need to buy in advance as they don't sell them on the bus. 99% of staff friendly. Good swimming pool although avoid at weekends as packed out with locals who pay for day passes. Nice little cafe/bar and restaurant on a lovely raised terrace overlooking the pool area.

    Disliked:

Nothing would have stayed longer if we'd known the site we were heading to after was under parr.

I'm so glad that we were able to visit the site in May. There was no real pressure on any of the facilities as there were relatively few campers. The swimming pool was very nice, the showers, toilets and dish washing room were impeccable.
We were offered a pitch with good shade.
All the staff were helpful and charming (save one , but there is always one!).
The bus to Florence stops just outside the campsite gate and costs Euro 3.50 per person each way and takes about 45 minutes - a real boon.

    Disliked:

Many people mention the drone of the motorway particularly at night. I imagine if you are in a camper van you can hardly hear it. We were in a tent so it was a little loader but you do get used to it.

Local attractions

Get out into the countryside by pedal or foot, explore the Chianti vineyards or make it a mission to get to all the nearby Florence cities from Camping Village Il Poggetto: again, doing the whole heap is an excellent option...

One could of course spend days/weeks among the likes of these Tuscany cities, but among the Poggetto team's top picks are: for Florence, a wander along the Arno river and around the Uffizi Gallery followed by a tagliata steak; for Pisa, the famed tower (but of course) and the medieval marble cathedral, and for Lucca, the medieval city walls and the Italian and international nightly acts of the Lucca Summer Festival.

Also recommended is Siena, just south of the site, for its twice-yearly Palio di Siena horse race, and nearby San Gimignano, with its 14 medieval towers each over 45 metres high.
