- Dog-friendly site in Torre Pellice, an hour’s drive from Turin
- Mountain hikes and wild swimming within a 15-minute drive
- Five minutes’ walk from the town’s museums, restaurants and shops
Campeggio Cairo might just have found the right recipe for a relaxing holiday in the alpine region of Piedmont. This dog-friendly, family-run site is in the small, historic town of Torre Pellice, about an hour’s drive from the city of Turin.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re after a cultural break (Torre Pellice is small but mighty when it comes to museums and historical archives), or whether you’re here to hike in nature areas like Monte Castlus (15 minutes’ drive) and Sea di Torre (25 minutes). This site is suited to all sorts – and that includes those who’d like to pay their full attention to the local gastronomic traditions.
The family that runs the place has taken great care to make the site as hospitable as possible. When you’re after some downtime, you can head to the meeting room to get chatting with fellow guests, or to catch a movie or sporting event. A big playground for kids has table tennis, table football and a swing. And it's all just five minutes’ walk from the centre of Torre Pellice, where there are shops, restaurants, a pub and a pizzeria, among other things.
Amenities on site include women's and men’s toilets with sinks, tubs so you can wash your clothes, foot-washing points and a chemical toilet disposal facility.

Local attractions
After taking in views of the Alps from the top of the tower at Museo Valdese (five minutes’ walk), spend some time exploring the collection of weapons, liturgical items and farming objects that reveal the life of the Protestant Waldensians. If this museum has whetted your appetite for all things Waldensian, visit the Gheisa d’la Tana (10 minutes’ drive), a church cave where this religious community would gather to worship and avoid persecution.
When only a spot of wild swimming will do, head to Tumpi of Bobbio (15 minutes), a series of natural pools fed by small waterfalls and surrounded by forested hills. Be warned, though: you’re close to the Alps here, and the water is pretty... well… ‘refreshing’ is putting it mildly.
The city of Turin (an hour) is well worth a visit. Check out the extensive collection of mummies at the Egyptian Museum, or head to the Museo della Sindone to see the Holy Shroud, or Jesus’s burial cloth. Then take the weight off your feet at an open-air café and indulge in some people-watching while sipping a bicerin coffee drink.
