  • Small site in the Marche hills, two kilometres from Cingoli
  • Frasassi Caves and Adriatic coast within an hour's drive
  • Dog walking area, play area and communal barbecues
Up in the Marche hills, a couple of kilometres outside the little village of Cingoli and surrounded by splendid green scenery, is a little gem of a site for folk seeking a peaceful break. The family that runs Camping Sparaceto has been doing its own outdoor holidays for many a year, so they’ve got a good idea of the nifty bits that are necessary for a comfy stay. They’ve kept things low key so as not to squash the serene vibe, but provided such things as a little play area for the nippers, a dog-walking area for those travelling with their furry pals, and a barbecue area for prepping alfresco dinners with a scenic backdrop. And they’ve picked a rather fine spot for this setup too: paths lead directly from the site out through the surrounding woodland and down to the town. It’ll take about 20 minutes to wander down to Cingoli’s shops, bars and supermarket (perhaps a tad longer if you keep stopping to take in the views…) or a couple of minutes if you’re driving over. Lakeside walks and waterpark days are both about 10 minutes’ drive away for local days out; venture a little further and within an hour’s drive you can get to lots of pretty villages, visit the Frasassi Caves or hit the coast for a day of splashing in the Adriatic.

Liked: We didn't stay. When we arrived, it was obvious that the site had suffered damage from heavy rains, we couldn't get our car up the road to the top if the site. The road was rutted and impassable. We were told over the phone to pull in below the shower block, next to an abandoned caravan. There was nobody else there. It was so miserable that we forfeited our deposit, called the manager to say we were not staying and left.

Disliked: The location. There is a lot of construction work going on by the shower block, locked ugly concrete buildings. The road was totally damaged.

Liked: Small, clean site. Best kept shower and toilet area we have seen. 20 minute shaded walk into Cingoli historical walled town with many churches and historical buildings. Nice bars in the town and best views in all Marche

Local attractions

Fancy a chilled-out day of splashing in cool water? Head up to Cingoli Lake (10 minutes’ drive) for freshwater swims or to paddle a boat out on the calm, clear waters from a quiet little beach area. Should you prefer your watery days to come with more thrills and spills, plot a course instead to one of the nearby waterparks: the Eldorado and Verde Azzurro waterparks are both about 10 minutes away. Alternatively, pack the car up and head down to the coast for a day by the sea: the beach at Civitanova Marche is around an hour’s drive away. Heading inland instead, cool days can be had by heading underground at Frasassi Caves (45 minutes’ drive). If you’ve got an eye for historic sights, set forth for some of the pretty villages and towns scattered around the Marche area – perhaps San Severino and its archaeological site (25 minutes), the Old Town of Jesi (half an hour) or Macerata’s medieval centre (half an hour).
