  • Peaceful, scenic site on the banks of Lac de Paladru, the 'Blue Lake'
  • Walibi Rhône-Alpes 25 minutes' drive away; 40 minutes to Grenoble
  • Fishing and paddleboarding on site; beaches a few minutes' walk
Lyon is about an hour’s drive away, and Grenoble is 40 minutes away… but here at Camping Le Calatrin it’s a fabulously peaceful experience surrounded by wonderful natural scenery. This Isère site is in a particularly pretty spot in a lush green park on the banks of Lac de Paladru, nicknamed ‘the Blue Lake’ for its vivid crystal-clear waters. That gorgeous location means that you may well end up spending much of your time here just taking in the views right here, perhaps while fishing from the site or heading to one of the nearby supervised beaches for sunbathing and swimming. Need a little more activity in your day? Hire kayaks or paddleboards to get out onto the lake, find local hiking trails or get your heart rate going with canyoning and caving adventures. There’s a whole lot of history in this area too, with châteaux and an excellent archeology museum to visit. Life on site is pretty laidback, with pétanque, volleyball and table tennis to provide a bit of gentle activity and a playground for the kids. Reception sells coffees, ice creams and snacks, and there’s a bread delivery service that runs in high season. The site has a barbecue area and a small convenience store, and the nearby village of Villages du Lac de Paladru (five minutes’ walk away) has a supermarket and restaurant.

Electric optional grass and earth pitch

Liked This campsite is a real gem. From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made for a great start to our trip. We were thrilled with our spot, which offered a truly spectacular view of the lake.
What we loved most was the convenience. A beautiful beach and a nice restaurant are just a pleasant 10-minute walk away, which was perfect for grabbing a bite or spending a day by the water. For those who love adventure, the variety of water activities available was a huge plus.
Another major highlight was the quality of the facilities. The sanitary blocks were recently renovated and impeccably clean, which makes such a difference. Best of all, the campsite was very quiet at night, allowing for a peaceful and restful sleep. We would definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable camping experience.

Local attractions

You won't need to go far from the site to find something to do – paddleboarding, canoeing and fishing are popular activities at the lake, there are several beach areas close by and you can take a nice walk along the Chemin des Marais (15 minutes’ walk). MALP - Musée archéologique du Lac de Paladru (five minutes' walk), showcasing the treasures found in and around the lake, is well worth a visit too. For more extensive walks, head into the Chartreuse Regional Natural Park for hilly landscapes or to Lac d’Aiguebelette for more lake views and the option to swim or paddleboard (both around half an hour’s drive). Parc Aventures Brunerie (20 minutes’ drive) makes a good outing for the kids, as does a day hitting the rides and waterpark at Walibi Rhône-Alpes (25 minutes). For a hit of history, Château de Virieu (10 minutes) is a lovely place to visit, whether you stroll through the grounds, take a castle tour or let the kids join in one of the fun activities. Further afield, Grenoble (40 minutes), Chambéry (45 minutes) and Lyon (an hour) all have plenty to keep all ages busy.
