  • Remote Vercors Natural Park site five mins’ drive from Col de Rousset
  • Museum of Prehistory 10 minutes’ drive; Grenoble an hour and a half
  • Dog-sledding experiences and a range of craft workshops on site
Outdoor adventures on your mind? You’ll certainly get those at Esprit du Nord, a remote site amid the rugged mountain scenery of the Vercors Regional Natural Park – and some of them may be a little different to what you’d expect… Hiking trails, climbing areas and mountain bike routes are of course plentiful in this area, along with skiing and snowshoeing at nearby Col de Rousset (five minutes’ drive) for winter guests. But one of the real highlights here is the range of activities centred around the pack of resident Siberian huskies: this is the place to come if you’ve ever fancied trying out cani-hiking or cani-snowshoeing, or taking a guided dog-sledding experience through the wintry landscapes. Once you’ve sapped your energy with that little lot, you can turn your attention to a more relaxing kind of recreation: craft workshops. And if you think crafting is about scrapbooking or knitting, think again: here you can make knives in the blacksmithing workshop, carve a wooden Viking stool or make your own leather accessory: rugged crafts to match the rugged landscapes. After you’ve completed your leather belt or bracelet, you can wear it with pride as you head into town to pick up your groceries or to dine out. The nearest shops and restaurants are in Vassieux-en-Vercors (five minutes’ drive along the D76 road); there are more dining options in Saint-Agnan-en-Vercors (also five minutes).
