'Fantastic', 'lovely' and 'very friendly' are just a teeny selection of accolades heaped on the spectacular little site of Camping du Pas des Biches – and there's Pineau des Charentes wine and cognac fine champagne to sample here too. The owners here make their own Pineau ('delicious' and 'amazing' are the verdicts on this, and oui, you can buy bottles too to take gleefully home): sample it on a splendid and peaceful countryside setting surrounded by Cognac vineyards, with loads of green space and tall trees all around for shade. It's all on the edge of the handsome little village of Celles in the Charente-Maritime department, within easy reach of family days out at local villages and at Cognac and Pons 15 minutes' drive away – although perhaps don't let the kids sample the wares at the former… Facilities are excellent here for days on site: there's an outdoor pool for family dips, sun loungers alongside for idle basking, and a well-equipped playground to entertain the kids. Amenities including showers and toilets are kept spotless. Please note that there's little English spoken at the site – however, you'll still find this place mighty friendly even if you don't parlez any français.

  • No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.
  • The outdoor swimming pool is open between 15/05 et 15/09 (subject to weather conditions).
  • We only allow dogs up to 10kg.
  • Reception is unmanned after 7 p.m.. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.
  • No gas barbecues allowed.
  • No charcoal barbecues allowed.
  • Fires, barbecues and/or firepits will not be permitted in dry, windy and/or hot weather conditions.

Liked Warm welcome, very friendly and helpful, clean spacious pitches. Tidy facilities, family friendly. We had a tranquil, pleasant 2 night stay, annd would visit again.
We didnt use the pool, but it looked very nice.

Disliked Not a dislike, but english travellers should be aware that in beautiful rural france there are no shops open for supplies on sunday afternoon ((a few open on sunday morning) Plan ahead!

Liked Convenient and pleasant location.
Staff very friendly. Responsive to a problem with the pine trees dropping sap on the tent.
Clean facilities.
Very good value.

Emplacement pratique et agréable.
Personnel très sympathique et réactif face à un problème de sève de pin tombant sur la tente.
Installations propres.
Très bon rapport qualité-prix.

Disliked The pine trees dropped a lot of sticky sap all over the tent and car - very difficult to get off - tent damaged. Was going to stay one night, but this changed the plans.
Children from one of the cabins opposite the camping area started playing around the area where the tents are located.
No toilet seats!!

Les pins ont laissé tomber beaucoup de sève collante sur la tente et la voiture ; c'était très difficile à enlever et la tente a été abîmée. Je comptais rester une nuit, mais cela a changé mes plans.
Des enfants venant de l'un des chalets situés en face de la zone de camping ont commencé à jouer à proximité des tentes.
Il n'y avait pas d'abattants sur les toilettes !!

Liked Excellent facilities. Quiet when we visited which was lovely. Expect it gets busy summer time. Has lots for families.
We enjoyed a walk in the County lanes, saw Ostrich, horses, lamas and fantastic views.
Ate at the hotel restaurant in the village, fabulous food.

Either you've booked the wrong campsite, or your rating is very harsh. I don't think our campsite is as you describe it! Everything is in order and ready to welcome holidaymakers, except for the swimming pool, which, as indicated on the website, will open during peak season! The Wi-Fi works via fiber optic, and the cleaning is done daily!

Local attractions

The site is 12 kilometres from the city centre of Cognac and its museums, Château Royal de Cognac and peaceful promenades around the Jardin Public and La Maison de la Lieutenance. Supermarkets, shopping areas, a golf course, parks, bars and restaurants are all on hand in town too. Heading west from the site, it's also about 15 minutes' drive to the medieval town of Pons, a stopoff point on the famed St James's Way. The town's a splendid spot for sightseeing among medieval streets and aged buildings: start off at the central square and climb to the top of the donjon for a stroll around the gardens and viewsome scenes of the town and its Grand Escalier staircase. For a restful and grownup time, the hot springs and casinos of Jonzac are within 25 minutes' drive. Camping du Pas des Biches is also well placed for seaside days at Meschers-sur-Gironde, Saint-Georges-de-Didonne and Royan, all within an hour.
