Make sure you pack your walking shoes and helmet for your stay at Camping Le Merval, a family-friendly site five minutes’ drive from the small town of Puyravault in the Vendée region of Pays de la Loire. Le Merval is in the Marais Poitevin Regional Natural Park, so it's well-placed for exploring the marshes and waterways of the south Vendée. Walkers and hikers will love trips to Aiguillon Bay, 10 minutes from the site, and an excursion to Venise Verte is a must: you can explore the canals on foot or by bike, sure, but you should almost certainly take a canoe or kayak out, or let someone else take over as they scull you through the leafy shade. If you got zen even reading that sentence, wait til you make it back to site, where you can continue your relaxation in the heated pool or on the shaded terrace of the snack bar, continuing the slow-paced getaway with a few games of pétanque or a leisurely sojourn in the games room (though the table football and ping pong may get competitive). You'll definitely be feeling peckish after all that relaxing, so stop by one of the supermarkets about 15 minutes from site to stock up on all the supplies you need for the barbecue, then fire it on up. Fancy something fancier than your own cooking? There are tons of restaurants to try within 20 minutes of Camping Merval.

Friendly campsite with spacious, shady pitches & a great pool. Owners are super helpful. Guests loved the calm vibe, bar & entertainment. Most found facilities fine, though some noted no loo roll/soap & bumpy bits. A bit far from sights for some. Snack bar serves meals.

Liked Lovely location near great wildlife habitat. Cafe and bar were good. Nice and quiet with a decent amount of shade. Good value for money.

Liked Schöne, uriger Campingplatz mit vielen französischen Campern. Gute Stimmung mit diversen Angeboten bei der Bar (Karaoke/Boule). Tischtennis, Kicker. Schöner Pool. Einfache aber sehr saubere Sanitäranlagen.

Disliked Poor facilities. No toilet paper or a place to put any. No sinks to wash hands after toilet except for 3 wash cubicles which were often full. Only 3 showers open, 3 washrooms and campsite nearly full.

J'ai lu attentivement votre commentaire et je me permets de répondre sur certains points car ce n'est pas tout à fait la réalité.
Pour commencer, je vous accorde que nous ne mettons pas de papier toilette à disposition, c'est un choix de notre part car l'expérience fait que nous devions remettre plusieurs rouleaux de papier, et plusieurs fois par jour.
Concernant les lavabos pour se laver les mains, il y a 2 lavabos juste en face des toilettes, vous ne les avez peut-être pas vus ! Et pour les douches, il y en a 4 à disposition. Ce bloc sanitaire est tout à fait adapté à la fréquentation de notre petit camping pendant la basse saison.

I have carefully read your comment and would like to respond to some points as it is not entirely accurate.
First, I agree that we do not provide toilet paper. This is a deliberate choice on our part because, based on experience, we had to replenish several rolls of toilet paper multiple times a day.
Regarding the sinks for washing hands, there are two sinks directly opposite the toilets; you may not have noticed them! And for showers, there are four available. This sanitary block is perfectly adequate for the number of guests at our small campsite during the off-season.

Local attractions

La Rochelle is half an hour’s drive from Le Merval and is well worth exploring. Make sure you see the medieval towers guarding the town and pay a visit to the many different ports along the seafront, then stop in at the highly recommended robot and maritime museums. Once you’re at La Rochelle, go that little bit further and head over to Île de Ré for 100 kilometres of cycle paths, salt marshes, villages and a spectacular old lighthouse. Speaking of old things, history buffs should explore the stunning abbeys at Saint Michel en l’Herm and Nieul sur l’Autise… If the kids are tiring of all the nature and history – philistines – there’s plenty to keep them entertained nearby: make your way to Indian Forest adventure park, Natur’Zoo at Mervent, O’Gliss waterpark and Château des Aventurier, all within 40 minutes, or venture further afield with a trip to Le Puy de Fou just over an hour away. If you don’t have the kids trailing behind, you get to enjoy a more grownup adventure – the adventure of going to a load of vineyards… Get your designated driver to bring you to Les Vignobles Mercier, Vignobles Mourat and Château de Rosnay, all within 30 minutes of Le Merval.
