What a lovely Luçon locale: Le Domaine des Guifettes is just a 25-minute drive from sandy beaches and set in the Regional Natural Park of the Marais Poitevin. Between La Rochelle and Les Sables d'Olonne, it is also a 45-minute drive from Jard-sur-Mer, a traditional seaside town which is home to beaches, restaurants and a harbour.
It's a half an hour's walk into the town of Luçon for restaurants and shops or attractions such as a cathedral and the monastery Le Grand Séminaire de Luçon. The town market is on Wednesdays and Saturdays should you wish to pick up some local produce for a tasty breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Dog-friendly and family-oriented, the site is in a Natura 2000 protected area and has nearly 20 acres of space. It has plenty to keep its guests occupied, from a large range of sports facilities to a seasonal heated indoor pool, seasonal outdoor waterslide, sauna and spa for relaxation. The sports facilities include the likes of a pétanque court, miniature golf course, tennis court, ping pong tables and a multisports area.
If you're taking the whole family on holiday and want a little bit of adults-only time, a kids' club is also available in the high season.

Liked: Niets. We hebben alleen maar negatieve ervaringen
Disliked: De plek was naast een bbq plaats. En naast weg van de ingang waar auto's overheen scheurden. En 's avonds/ 's nachts jongeren rond hingen. Vies sanitair. Drukte en overvol zwembad. We zijn eerder naar huis gegaan

Local attractions
The Regional Natural Park of the Marais Poitevin is a much-visited spot in the region. Crossed by canals used for rowing boats, it's nicknamed the Green Venice or la Venise Verte, so do find your way there for a day filled with stunning views and wildlife watching.
Also around, roam around the Côte de Lumière or Coast of Light and the seaside resorts along the coast of the Vendée. You could fit in some birdwatching at Pointe d'Arçay - la rade d'amour (35 minutes' drive) or spend a day on the sand at Plage de la Pointe (half an hour) or Plage de l'Oasis (25 minutes). Jard-sur-Mer (45 minutes) is less remote and has seaside parks, dunes and a funfair.
Back in Luçon, the Jardin Dumaine (35 minutes' walk) built on the site of an old convent is also well worth a look. Luçon also has a cinema should you want to take the kids out for some lighthearted, easy entertainment.
