  • Peaceful, green site along the river in Beaumont-sur-Sarthe
  • Only 400 metres from the town centre; Le Mans 35 minutes’ drive
  • Fishing, play area, TV room and bread delivery on site; dog-friendly
There are lots of ways to spend a day at Camping Val de Sarthe in Pays de la Loire. The peaceful, green site is along the riverfront in Beaumont-sur-Sarthe, so after waking, you could set up for a day of on-site river fishing on the Sarthe (after buying a permit at reception) or walk 400 metres into the town centre to grab a long, lazy breakfast before making your way to Le Mans (35 minutes’ drive south) or Alençon (half an hour north). The scenic site is also a short drive away from the Mancelles Alps, where there is plenty of stunning, sloping scenery. There’s a good pick of cycling routes in the area, one of the most popular being the Vélobuissonnière, a 155-mile route through the countryside. The A28 motorway is only 10 minutes’ drive away, making it easy to get around the region by car too. All within five minutes’ walk of the site, there are shops and restaurants in Beaumont-sur-Sarthe town centre. If you ever fancy a quick swim, just stroll 10 minutes to the town's heated public swimming pool. There are plenty of facilities to make use of at Camping Val de Sarthe too, whether it’s the play area with a volleyball court, table tennis and a basketball hoop or the indoor communal area's library and TV room. Set across the seven or so acres, the pitches are bordered by hedges and surrounded by tall trees and lots of plants to give plenty of privacy. Bread is delivered to the site every morning. In July and August, the site also opens up a mini golf course.

Local attractions

Walking from Camping Val de Sarthe will get you to shops and scenic points like Pont Romain (10 minutes’ walk) in hardly any time. Driving, however, opens up much more… with a car, get out to museums, lakes, heritage sites and cities. In the city of Le Mans (35 minutes’ drive), the 24 Hours of Le Mans Museum will walk you through the history of the famed 24 of Le Mans car race. The actual racecourse, Circuit des 24 Heures du Mans, has simulators and go-karting activities. Browse around the city's cathedral, which has Gothic and Romanesque elements, or venture to the Royal Abbey of Epau to see a fine example of a former Cistercian abbey. To the north is Alençon (half an hour), famed for its lacemaking. It has a lace-making museum as well as a stunning 15th-century basilica and the birthplace of Saint Thérèse Martin. You may fancy planning an outing to Fresnay-sur-Sarthe (15 minutes) too, a medieval town with a castle and a pretty gorgeous riverside (picnic, maybe…?).
