Quiet lakeside location for the peaceful vibes or handy town setting for the convenience of being able to walk to a shop? No need to choose when you’re staying at Camping Ardresien – this Nord-Pas-de-Calais site is in a particularly choice position in the town of Ardres, about five minutes’ walk from the town centre, which hosts summer night markets. In the other direction, it's just a three-minute walk from Lac d’Ardres (along a direct path), a popular spot for pedal boating, renting small boats, slurping on an ice cream or watching the annual July fireworks. This family-run site is a friendly and laidback site where pets and kids are welcome and pitches are quiet and well kept. A play area and pétanque court are on site, along with picnic tables where you can serve up your meals (cooked on a barbecue if you’d like to bring one along). The highlight for many people, though, is the private fishing pond, available for guests to use during their stay. The edge-of-town location is a very handy one that puts you just a few minutes’ walk from a good variety of shops and places to eat, along with other amenities like banks and a post office. Being about 20 minutes’ drive from Calais is another bonus on the location front too, as it puts cross-channel travellers within easy reach of the ferry port (and makes this site a good choice for a first or last night). The nearby coast isn’t all about ferries, of course – you’ll also be able to get to a nice sandy beach or a coastal nature reserve. Turning the other way, there are lots of walks and other outdoor activities in the Caps et Marais d’Opales Regional Natural Park.

Liked Easy to get to from Calais. A spotless site and fantastic staff. Nothing is to much trouble. The price is so cheap, unbelievable. 20 mins from Calais port. We stopped there after a mid afternoon ferry crossing and stayed again on our early morning ferry crossing home.

Liked A very friendly welcome, help with phone charging and a peaceful night by the side of a lake. Thank you for making the last night of our holiday so enjoyable. Only 20 minutes’ drive from the port of Calais meant a stress-free drive to the ferry next morning. We would visit again.

Liked Extremely friendly owners . The location was great . Spotless showers and toilets and the only reason I’ve given a 9 is it would of been nice to have two male showers and two female showers instead of one of each that said I didn’t have to wait but the wife did . Please don’t let that put you off though as the site is well worth a visit and we will definitely be back . We booked this site due to it’s proximity to the tunnel but with the benefit of hindsight we’d of happily stayed here longer than one night

Disliked Even though I’ve previously mentioned the one shower per gender there’s Not really anything that’s worth a moan about .

Liked The location, the setting, the tranquility and the welcome. It’s in its 3 generation of stewardship and the mum, son and ni ce were all present and took a hand in greeting and showing me where things were. The tip from the niece to eat at The Cozy Cosa, was a lovely touch. Oh and phenomenally clean facilities.

For outdoor activities, climb into the trees at Adventure Course Guines (10 minutes’ drive), play a round at Golf du Bois de Ruminghem (20 minutes) or join boat tours from places like Saint-Martin-lez-Tatinghem (25 minutes).
