  • Peaceful and green site on an island in the Petite Baïse river
  • Lake and a heated indoor swimming pool on the grounds
  • Fishing, kids’ club, table tennis, bouncy castles and vineyard tours
Embrace island life – but not as you know it – with a stay at Camping Paradis Île-du-Pont, a green and peaceful site on a five-acre parcel of land in the middle of the 75-kilometre-long Petite Baïse river flowing through south-western France. Previous guests wax lyrical about the dreamy setting of this place (and that's fair enough – as well as being surrounded by water, it has an artificial lake to lounge beside) but they also appreciate the number of activities available. There’s a kids’ club, bouncy castles, table tennis and multisports fields. Also on-hand is a heated indoor swimming pool. During high season at this spot in the Midi-Pyrénées, there's often evening entertainment laid on. But if you’re planning on skipping the shows and getting an early night ahead of a full day of active pursuits…? With river fishing, miniature golf, organised vineyard tours and mountain biking on local paths to look forward to, it's best to plan plenty of time here to accommodate both social evenings and active outings. Camping Paradis Île-du-Pont, a 10-minute walk from the restaurants and supermarkets in the town of Mirande, is fully equipped for people with reduced mobility as it has suitably adapted toilet facilities. There’s also a laundry room, toilets and showers, internet access and a washing-up area. It's a laidback place, so barbecues and dogs are permitted on the grounds.

Electric optional grass and earth pitch

Liked: Les structures pour les enfants (piscine, château gonflable), les animateurs était très appréciable.

Disliked: Le branchement électrique n'est pas pratique pour l'emplacement des tente (2 rallonge ont été extrêmement limite pour pouvoir se brancher)

Local attractions

Mirande, a 10-minute walk away, is a quiet spot with the Musée des Beaux-Arts museum to check out. For sights a little more famed, head to the town of Auch (30 minutes’ drive) and wander around its handsome Episcopal neighbourhood set high above the Gers river. Your first stop should be the UNESCO-registered Cathédrale Sainte-Marie for its gorgeous Gothic and Renaissance architecture. For more stately buildings, check out the intact keep of the Château de Thibault de Termes (45 minutes) and then head to the Château de Gramont (an hour and 10 minutes), a classic example of a Gascon castle from the 13th century. Eager to experience some of France’s epic landscapes amid all the castle hunting? Get over to Gorges de la Save (50 minutes) and hike with excellent views over the deep rocky chasm or fish for trout in the river. This spot’s also popular with climbers – if you’re keen to clamber up a wall or few there are 130 routes to master, spread over five sections.
