- Luxurious geodesic dome on the Boucheuse river in the Haute-Vienne
- A 10-minute drive to Château de Bonneval; an hour to Oradour-sur-Glane
- Alfresco kitchen, waterside decking and stargazing; meals available
Looking for rural seclusion with a dash of luxury in the Haute-Vienne? You might just have found your Limoges retreat at Riveco Glamping, where a deluxe geodesic dome awaits on the River Boucheuse banks. It’s completely self-contained and surrounded by trees: chances are the only sound you’ll hear is the burble of the river.
In the dome all is thoughtful style: storage space, cosy seating, a sofa bed and upstairs – yes, this dome has an upstairs – a proper double bed.
Outside is riverside decking for sunbathing and chilling, and right by the dome is the kitchen, with cooking equipment and a barbecue so you can be self-sufficient in the catering department. Next-door is the eco-friendly toilet and shower.
One of the best things about the dome? There’s no light pollution in these parts, so if you take its roof off at night, you’ll be greeted by swathes of shimmering stars far above. Not sure what’s what constellation-wise? Astronomical tours are bookable on site.
This is a family business and personal touches are very much evident, from the mini-sized cottage for storing your gear and charging devices to the welcome baskets containing lots of local goodies. An organic breakfast, lunch and dinner service is also available but needs to be ordered on arrival.
While away peaceful days wild swimming, paddling upstream or fishing for supper from the banks, getting to know the local village of Coussac-Bonneval (10 minutes’ drive) or taking a guided tour of the medieval Château de Bonneval.

Local attractions
If you’re keen to get active, there are many running and cycling routes direct from the site, or numerous lakes for swimming, boating and other watersports. Book an off-roading trip through woodland from Coussac-Bonneval (10 minutes), or see the stunning Haute-Vienne countryside from above on a balloon ride (25 minutes).
A day trip to historic Limoges (45 minutes) rewards with displays of decorative and priceless porcelain at the Musée National Adrien Dubouché, medieval timber-frame houses lining Rue de la Boucherie and the extravagant Gothic-style Cathédrale St-Étienne. The city’s cobbled streets also serve up lots of pavement cafés for some downtime with a beer or glass of wine.
For a more sobering day out, visit Oradour-sur-Glane (an hour), a small village destroyed by the Nazis on June 10, 1944, during a massacre that killed 642 of its inhabitants. You can wander around the streets and church, preserved as they were left on that fateful day, and learn more about the tragedy at the thought-provoking memorial centre.
