Can’t quite decide between dips in the Mediterranean, mountain capers up in the Pyrénées Orientales or a brief Spanish siesta? At the family-friendly Camping Maureillas, you won’t have to drop any of these three activities from your itinerary, as this site is in the town of Maureillas-Las-Illas in the Pyrénées Orientales mountains, only five minutes’ drive away from the Spanish border and half an hour from the Mediterranean Sea at the same time. With two countries at your fingertips, this is a real prime spot for a day out exploring the high Pyrenees or visiting the eccentric Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres (35 minutes), followed by a leisurely evening in one of Argelès-sur-Mer’s seafood restaurants by the sea (25 minutes). Facilities on site include hot showers and a laundry service with dryers and water points. Secure bike boxes are available for travelling cyclists – plus the pine forest setting means that there’s plenty of shade on the pitches when you’re ready to put your feet up. Here you’re also close to the centre of the town, so it's easy to pick up essentials from the store or perhaps your daily baguette from the bakery. There’s a scattering of cafés and bistros, and a play area for the kids too.

Su ubicación, dentro de un pueblo chiquitito y muy agradable.

Liked: L’accueil est au top, l’endroit est calme et apaisant, le prix n’est pas chère et pas trop loin d’Argeles et des criques

Disliked: Camping ouvert nuit et jour sans barrières et des campings car peuvent débarquer dans la nuit, nous nous sommes fait volé notre tapis de sol en partant un après midi et voulant laisser le tapis pour marquer notre emplacement… dommage, mais coin tout de même très calme et agréable ce sont des choses qui peuvent arriver, l’hôtesse d’accueil nous a fourni un tapis pour nous dépanner ! Très sympa merci encore

Liked: Sa localisation est parfaite à quelques kilomètres des plages, mais aussi de l’espagne. Le fait de pouvoir choisir notre emplacement et ne pas d’être déjà placer.

Disliked: Du fait qu’il n’y ai pas de surveillance la nuit les gens sont bruyants et ne respecte pas forcément les personnes voulant se reposer. De plus étant donné qu’il n’y a pas de barrière à l’entrée les gens rentrent en voiture à toute heure et dormant en tente on est vite réveillé .. Les emplacements ne sont pas assez bien délimités de ce fait les gens cherche à passer au plus court pour aller d’un point à un autre donc ils marchent sur votre parcelle..

What’s your vehicle of choice? If you’re still undecided, you’ll get to test the waters from this site. That includes in the literal sense, as boating is the preferred way to glide over Les Lacs de Saint Jean Pla de Corts (10 minutes’ drive). On firmer ground, there’s bicycle rental 15 minutes’ drive away to get going on the mountainside trails. Meanwhile, in Aqualand Saint Cyprien (30 minutes), you might find yourself clinging onto an inflatable down one of the waterslides. After all the activity, you may be feeling ready to loosen up your limbs a little. If so, there’s a far more leisurely wander around the botanical gardens at Labyrinthes aux 1000 Fleurs (20 minutes) or perhaps the animal park at Turtle Valley (20 minutes). Of course, a spa will do the trick too and there’s the Thermes du Boulou (five minutes) for that. Now, how about the area's landmarks? Fort de Bellegarde (10 minutes) is one of these: a fortress at the top of a hill. Pont du Diable (15 minutes) is a grand bridge over a gorge, while Siureda (20 minutes) is a dolmen at the end of a trail. And finally, Figueres (35 minutes) has museums and Salvador Dalí’s birthplace.
