It's free, quick and easy!
- Quiet, tree-lined campsite in the green Pyrenean hinterland
- A 10-minute drive to Argelès Plage; 25 minutes to the Spanish border
- Outdoor pool, bar, food shop and tourist information at reception
Lasso yourself a stay at Camping Le Rancho, a quiet site on the edge of the Albera Massif in the foothills of the Pyrenees. Set a few kilometres back from the coast, this site is excellently placed for holidays exploring Mediterranean beaches, sunny seaside resorts and remote mountain villages on both sides of the Franco-Spanish border.
On top of its location, this site's good range of facilities really makes it tick: there's a spacious outdoor pool, a bar for drinks and light bites, a food shop stocking basic groceries and a reception where you can chat to the friendly staff about what to get up to in the local area.
Getting around is easy, as the site is just off the speedy D2 road that can take you off to the mountains or down to the sea in a matter of minutes. Directly outside the site there are also trails for mountain biking and hiking.
All the normal amenities like supermarkets, a post office and a railway station are about a 10-minute drive away in Argelès sur Mer, where there’s also a long stretch of sandy beaches on hand in Argelès Plage next door. And after? You might like to head out to Roussillon vineyards, over the border to Spanish Catalonia or wind your way down the coast to Banyuls or Cerbère.

Local attractions
Your immediate surrounds have a lot going for them if you prefer to keep it local – five minutes away there's Domaine de la Cerigue for local Roussillon wines, while down at Luna Park (15 minutes) there's a wide range of funfair-style rides and family-friendly attractions to investigate. Other than the sands at Argelès Plage (10 minutes), the closest coastal resort is Collioure (15 minutes), where you should check out the views of the Côte Vermeille from the Château Royal.
For a freshwater spot to swim, you could make for Lac de Villeneuve-de-la-Raho (20 minutes), a reservoir that's a popular spot for sailing, sunbathing, fishing and other outdoorsy activities. A short drive further north (and half an hour from base) is Perpignan, where there's the spectacular Palace of the Kings of Majorca. A tourist train is available here if you fancy giving your feet a break while sightseeing.
Exploring the hinterland is also a must, and at Camping Le Rancho you're within reach of remote and scenic Pyrenean spots like the Tour Madeloc viewpoint (30 minutes) and Castelnou (40 minutes), certified as a beauty spot by Plus Beaux Villages de France.
