A peaceful farm site that shares its grounds with both an equestrian centre and a 17-hectare vineyard… sounds like an excellent start, non? Add in a handy location five minutes’ drive (or a half-hour walk) from both Junas village centre and the medieval town of Sommières – both fine sources of local food – and you may well be tempted to settle in at Domaine de Christin for quite some time. And that’s just as well, because the list of potential activities both on site and in the gorgeous Gard surrounds is the sort of thing that could also sustain many a day/week. If you’re heading out, you can do so on a number of walking/mountain biking/horse riding trails that run from the site (with maps provided to ensure you find your way), or hit the 20-kilometre Vaunage voie verte path 700 metres away. Nîmes, Montpellier, Mediterranean beaches and nature-spotting days in the Camargue Regional Natural Park can all be on the menu too… all are around 40 minutes’ drive away with handy access via the nearby A9. And if you’d prefer to stay put for a bit? Do so without any worries of the rest of the gang getting bored – there’s plenty for them all to do, between the beach volleyball court, the table tennis, the pétanque court and the giant trampoline (for both big and little kids). An outdoor pool is on hand for cooling off after that little lot, and it’s surrounded by plenty of sun loungers for those who simply require a place to stretch out for a snooze. Time for eats and sleeps? Barbecues are permitted for the former, and the pleasingly spacious pitches should help with the latter.

Active types? Take a 15-minute walk (or few minutes’ drive) to the Roc de Massereau adventure park for ziplining and treetop trails, then continue on up to Sommières for canoeing, kayaking or paddleboarding outings on the Vidourle river. Combine a bit of activity with a bit of wildlife-spotting at the Camargue Regional Natural Park (40 minutes’ drive) – horse riding, hikes, bike rides and boat trips can all be had here, and you should keep eyes peeled for flamingoes and wild horses as you roam. For guaranteed animal sightings, try Le Petit Paradis De Vendargues (25 minutes) and the underwater creatures of Seaquarium (40 minutes). You’ll also need at least a day each for Nîmes (to see the Roman monuments and the Pont du Gard) and Montpellier (to see the cathedral, château and museums), plus at least one for the sandy beaches of La Grande-Motte… but you'll only need 40 minutes or so to drive to each.
