Vineyards, forests and mountains: what a spectacular setting for a getaway. Camping de Montolieu is a little green haven in the Aude region, just a 20-minute walk away from the village of Montolieu and a 20-minute drive from Carcassonne. After exploring Montolieu – a ‘Village of Books and Arts’ – touring Cathar castles, the Montagne Noire and the region’s vineyards (all within 20 minutes’ drive of the site), there’s nothing like getting back to home base and tucking into a local drink with insider recommendations on the snack bar’s terrace. On-site activities include ping pong and table football. For more action, a tennis court and football pitch are next door, and a heated open-air pool is available five minutes’ walk away in July and August. Concerts and a local market also take place on site during summer. Other weekly high-season activities include sociable communal meals and the chance to sample the produce of local vineyards in wine-tasting sessions in the surrounding Cabardès appellation. Everyone gets a friendly welcome at Camping de Montolieu – certified Camping Qualité and Qualidog – it welcomes couples, pals, families and dogs for a friendly and relaxed holiday.

  • Reception is unmanned after 7 p.m.. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.

  • The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. XL Bully, Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.
  • Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Liked Pitch size was ideal for my camper and seating. Snack bar and reception service with also fresh bakery delivery each day was superb. Lovely quiet setting and excellent facilities all round.

Disliked Os banheiros poderiam ser mais modernos e mais limpos. Poderia ter um mini mercado e um restaurante com mais opções.

Concernant les sanitaires, un rafraîchissement est justement prévu cet hiver. Nous avançons progressivement dans les améliorations du camping. 😊

Pour la restauration, nous avons fait le choix d’un snack avec une carte simple, dans l’esprit camping. Montolieu est à quelques minutes à pied et propose plusieurs restaurants et commerces pour compléter notre offre.

Regarding the sanitary facilities, we are planning to refresh them this winter as part of the gradual improvements we are making to the campsite. 😊

As for food, we’ve chosen to keep our snack bar simple and in the spirit of camping. Montolieu is just a short walk away, with several restaurants and local shops offering additional options.

Liked Gut zu erreichen sauber familiär meine Frau und ich haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt. Wir würden sehr gerne wiederkommen, wenn wir mal auf dem Weg daran vorbeikommen. Vielen Dank für den netten Service.

Disliked Zuerst dachte ich, dass die Lage nah der Straße störend sei aber es hat sich herausgestellt, dass das nicht so ist. Mir fällt jetzt wirklich nichts Negatives ein.

Liked Fabulous site and made to feel very welcome by Pauline and Grégoire the owners.
Very short walk from campsite to Montolieur which is a small artisan town and well worth a visit.
Bus stop to Carcassonne was just outside the campsite opposite the local council swimming pool.

Local attractions

A château visit is almost obligatory around here: perhaps to the remains of Château de Saissac (15 minutes’ drive), or to the Châteaux de Lastours (half an hour), where no fewer than four castles peer down on the village from their hilltop setting. And for those with something of an interest in their vino, surely a stop at one (or all) of the area’s wineries must also be on the cards – there are several within a 20-minute drive, so take your pick. Got the kids in tow? Perhaps dial down on the wine-based tourism and instead aim for the antipodean animal park Le Parc Australien (half an hour) or underground exploration at the Gouffre de Cabrespine (45 minutes). If you only make it to one day out around here though, it really should be Carcassonne (20 minutes), famed for its fairytale hilltop medieval citadel and 12th-century castle; it’s also a handy place to board boat trips along the Canal du Midi.
