Weave a scenic and historic Normandy holiday with a stay at Camping Municipal des Bords de l'Aure, set an easy riverside walk away from the town centre of Bayeux and its world-famed tapestry telling the story of the Battle of Hastings and the Norman invasion of England. More recent history can be learnt about around the Normandy D-Day beaches, around 10 minutes' drive away from base. Otherwise opt to try the many outdoor activities in the region, like the 36-hole golf course at Omaha beach 25 minutes' drive away, or the horse riding and watersports centres within 10 kilometres. The Parc Festyland theme park is also only 25 minutes' drive away for a day on the rides. The site has bikes to hire to take to the town or the coast. Also around for guests are a playground, table tennis and a pétanque court. There may be no pool on site, but there's a splendid indoor pool at the Centre aquatique Auréo, which is just five minutes' walk away from the site and free for guests to use. Those activities are sure to give you a healthy appetite, so it's handy that the site has a bread and pastries service.

Liked One of the best sites we’ve stayed on in France. It’s October and the shower block is very clean and warm. Reception staff very helpful and free use of the indoor pool next door. Good pitches hard standings for camper vans and grass for tents. Electric hook up. Lovely ten minute walk into Bayeux either by road or along a beautiful river walk. There is a communal lounge with books and games this is also kept nice and warm. Play areas for kids and ping pong tables. They offer a preorder baker service. But there is a bolongerie 5 mins across the road. We would defiantly come again.

Liked Excellent facilities, verylarge and very clean, friendly staff who was very helpful calling taxis for us. Great you can order bread and pastires to the following day. Good size pitches. Close to town and the d-day beaches

Disliked Could do with some small lights leading to facilities as when its dark you can't see much atall.

Liked Very clean. Toilets and showers spotless.
Washing up area had piping hot water. Washing machines and dryer available.
Grounds are well kept. Supermarket and other shops few minutes walk. Approx 10 minutes walk to Bayeux city centre. Mini bus taxi to D Day memorials approx €40.
Lovely staff.

Liked Lovely site well kept with marked pitches. Excellent facilities showers/ wash basins and outside you can wash dishes and separate sinks to wash laundry or use the machine and dryer.
Only 15 minutes to walk into Baueaux.

Disliked Potable water not clearly labelled or marked on the site map.

Liked Great location in Bayeux. Excellent helpful reception and super site layout. Facilities as good as we've had this year. Just a great site for the money!!

Disliked Nothing other than the hook up points are spread out not on each pitch so we had to move as our 20m cable wouldn't reach the connection point.

Local attractions

Take the peaceful stroll or quick bike ride from the site into the centre of Bayeux a kilometre away, home of course to the mammoth Bayeux Tapestry, the 68 metres of 11th-century tapestry depicting the Normandy invasion of England and the subsequent Battle of Hastings. Also in town are the 11th-century Bayeux Cathedral, a British war cemetery, the Memorial Museum of the Battle of Normandy and the MAHB art museum, with paintings, sculptures, drawings, photographs, porcelain and Bayeux lace from throughout the centuries. Another D-Day museum is at Arromanches-les-Bains (10 minutes' drive) and the Normandy landing beaches of Omaha (25 minutes), Juno (25 minutes) and Utah (45 minutes) are all within striking distance. The Caen Memorial, commemorating World War II and the Battle for Caen, is 25 minutes' drive away. Outdoor activities are easily sorted with local horse riding, a couple of kilometres from the site, or with watersports including paddleboarding, sailing and sea kayaking at the nearby Normandy beaches, 10 minutes' drive away. You could also spend a day at the Les etangs de planquery (25 minutes), or take the kids to the Parc Festyland (25 minutes), themed around the events of 1066 and all that.
