As Auvergne holiday locations go, this one’s a real winner – Camping Onlycamp Le Pré is in a highly scenic spot tucked away between the Volcans d’Auvergne and Livradois-Forez Regional Natural Parks. And on top of that, it’s a mightily convenient location too, on the edge of the medieval village of Montaigut-le-Blanc and just a few minutes’ walk from the village’s food shops and restaurant.
All of this adds up to an excellent base for a holiday in this area – one that’s packed with outdoor activities like hikes, watersports and fishing or visits to attractions like castles. Volcanoes should be on the schedule too, as both Puy de Dôme and Vulcania are within about a 45-minute drive.
You’ll want to factor in some time on site as well, because there’s plenty to keep you occupied at these spacious, shady pitches. The site is on the banks of the Couze Chambon river, so it has direct access to the water. Games of tennis, volleyball, table tennis and pétanque are on hand for all ages, and there’s also a games room, a playground and a trampoline for the kids.
Meanwhile, a few minutes’ stroll takes you to the village’s public pool (free for site guests), which is lifeguarded and has a paddling pool; it’s open through the summer months and runs free swimming lessons in the morning too.
Time to eat? The site’s food court has a collection of food trucks selling things like snacks, ice creams and soft drinks. In the summer months (July and August), you can order your breakfast through the bread delivery service.
Being a family-friendly kind of place, there are lots of handy facilities here to make life easy, including a launderette, a wifi service and two well-equipped bathroom blocks.
