- Quiet wooded site in the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Natural Park
- Château d’Auzers and Gentian Express within 15 minutes' drive
- Lake on site for fishing and swims; village 10 minutes' walk away
Here’s a plan for your holiday in the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Natural Park – scenic hikes and/or bike rides by day, freshwater swim to cool off, then an evening tending your barbecue while the sun sets and the stars come out overhead.
If that simple but splendid schedule sounds good to you, you’ll find a good base for it at Camping Onlycamp Le Pioulat. This quiet Cantal campsite is on the western edge of the natural park, just outside the village of Trizac, and it’s close to lots of lovely trails – whether you fancy exploring nearby woodland walks, heading out onto the surrounding plateau areas or taking your mountain bike out on challenging hilly rides. Waterfalls, lakes, forests and mountains make up the landscapes here so you’ll never be short of a scenic view.
Back at base, you can refresh with a dip in the Pioulat lake if you like, or just have a little paddle from the lake beach to cool your feet. There’s fishing here too, so bring your rod along if you’re into angling.
This is a nature-filled site so it doesn’t have lots of colourful facilities, but all the essentials are covered: there’s a small grocery shop, a launderette and a motorhome service point, plus games of ping pong and pétanque to keep guests busy. Nearby Trizac isn’t a big place but it musters up a restaurant, bar, bakery and a butcher – handy for supplies for that evening by the barbecue (and a good breakfast in the morning).
