Pitch with view on the river

  • Riverside campsite near the Pyrenees
  • On-site snack bar, summer entertainment and many sports available
  • Between Pau and Lourdes
At the edge of a river near the Pyrenees, within easy reach of Bious-Artigues lake, and with long lengths of walking and cycling trails snaking around its Pyrénées-Atlantiques countryside – oui, Camping Le Saillet is an outdoorsy kind of site. There's direct access to the river from here for rafting, swimming, paddling, fishing and canoeing, and easy access to hiking, mountain trekking and cycling high up nearby. Walks run alongside the river or up to the sanctuary of Bétharram Caves in nearby Lourdes. If you do want to kick back around base, Camping Le Saillet has a pool, playground, deckchairs and regular creative activities such as pottery. There's also a snack bar with covered terrace and grassed seating area, dishing up regional specialties, cold drinks and regular live music. Among the modern and comfy amenities are shower and toilet block suitable for disabled guests, a launderette and a washing-up area. Shops, bars and restaurants are in the local village, five minutes' walk away.

What customers say

Great vibe, loads to do! Relaxed bar, big clean pool, riverside setting perfect for mountain trips. Friendly, hardworking staff. Pitches spacious & clean, facilities well-kept. Village quiet, but bigger shops nearby. Some noise from campers & minor issues noted, WiFi patchy.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Vibrant campsite with lots going on, the bar is relaxed and fun and the pool is large and clean. Great spot for adventures in the mountains. The owners were super helpful and really worked hard to keep the place clean, serve food and drinks and to be on hand, great stay!

Disliked The local village didn’t have many amenities but that’s just a minor point.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Location was good for trips into the mountains.
Small town had some facilities but not much however larger stores weren't too far away.
Nice riverside location.

Disliked Should have been a pleasant quiet stay but the family on the pitch next to us didn't seem to care that their 3 kids were running around screaming all the time.
They allowed them to use our pitch as if it were their own and they would stand and watch us every time we sat out for a meal.
I don't mind kids running around and having fun ( I have 8 grandchildren of my own)but some boundaries are required at times.
Parents weren't bothered in the slightest as long as they weren't bothering them.
Not a fault of the site I must say but did spoil it a bit for us.

Cyclo Tente 1 bedroom safari tent (two person)

Liked Loved the location, set up, and reasonable prices (camping and snack bar). The cyclo tent was well thought out and had everything I needed. Great view of the river too

Disliked They must have had bad experiences in the past as they insisted on keeping my passport which delayed my start in the morning considerably.

From the manager: Hello,
Thank you for your advice.
It is a good remark for the deposit I ask.
Effectively, I ask systematically a deposit o 150€, Why ?
It is a security for us if damages, I suppose you would not break any thing but some can and I do not know my guest when they arrive. I try to make sure every thing will be fine.
That's why I ask the deposit.
And most of the time, I give back the money, because noting happened.
This is the way we work and it goes well.
Thank you for your understanding.
And see you again
Kind regards

Très bel endroit et calme (sauf pour les chutes d'eaux, il faut aimer)

Cyclo Tente 1 bedroom safari tent (two person)

Liked The pitch , friendly staff, wood framed tent .area .
Clean shower block , swimming pool , bar

Disliked Payment of deposit £150 was a surprise although paid back .
Timed water taps/showers should be longer .
Our pitch was right on river rapids which made it very noisy at night .
Could do with a griddle in kitchenette or an electric ring . (We bought one )
The village had limited facilities ie no restaurants or bar open past 12 midday! Yes you read that right .
You do need your own transport for sure .
The rain (no one’s fault )

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked The location was lovely, right beside a river.

Disliked The facilities were poor. The gents washroom and toilets were locked, so everyone had to use the ladies.
Not very clean.

Local attractions

Several walking routes start nearby from Camping Le Saillet, including scenic ones along the river and one up to the sanctuary of Lourdes's Bétharram caves, the series of caverns near Asson, Saint-Pé-de-Bigorre and the site's local commune of Lestelle-Bétharram. A walk of almost three kilometres underground covers the levels dug into the mountain by the flowing river. Another excellent local option is Pau, the Pyrenees city with spectacular and famed views across the mountains. Also in town are the medieval monument of the Château de Pau, housing a national museum that's one of the most visited in France; Beaumont Park, a top picnic spot shaded by centenarian trees; the fine arts museum, with works from the fifteenth to twentieth centuries including by Rubens and Degas; the hillside Pavillon des Arts exhibition space, and several festivals running throughout the year. Nearby Lourdes is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in the world and the most visited place in France after Paris. Across the bridge from the town centre and surrounded by extensive gardens is the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, with churches, chapels and crypts including the huge and mostly underground Basilica of St Pius X, able to accommodate up to 25,000 people.
