  • Rural campsite near the EuroVelo 5 and Sarre Canal in the Bas-Rhin
  • A five-minute drive to Parc Nature de Cheval, and 20 to Dehlingen
  • Fishing pond, wild swimming, snacks, grocery shop and bread delivery
Deep in Alsace Bossue countryside in the Bas-Rhin region, the Cœur d’Alsace campsite sits between the Vosges du Nord regional nature park and the German border. With a peaceful and relaxed vibe, the spacious grass pitches are surrounded by greenery and mature trees. The site is edged by the Sarre Canal, originally built to carry coal from the Saar mines and now just the spot for long, leisurely waterside strolls. Fishing enthusiasts also come here to try their hand at casting for carp on the pond – also a lovely place for picnics – and it’s a popular stopover campsite for long-distance hikers or cyclists on the EuroVelo 5 (there are pitches for campers without cars). And of course, it’s ideal as an Alsace pied-à-terre for a restful family holiday. Handy facilities on site include washing machines and dryers in the laundry, and a pristine shower block. Keep toddlers busy at the playground, and older kids occupied with challenges on the volleyball court or football field. Wild swimming is close by too. No need to worry about cooking either: breakfast is taken care of with fresh bread delivered daily, and you can pick up essentials for simple meals from the store, or eat in the alfresco café, which serves wholesome regional fare.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The staff was very friendly and we were welcomed warmly at the site. We particularly liked that dogs are very welcome. The scenery was very beautiful with a lake right at the campsite and a river nearby.

Disliked: The ground was not ideal for a tent (too hard, lots of stones) and we had real difficulties with setting it up as had our neighbors.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Veel schaduw op de camping, mooi groen. Ruime plekken. Brood service, vriendelijke eigenaren.

Disliked: Het toiletgebouw zonder wc brillen.

From the manager: Bonjour, Nous vous remercions pour votre séjour. Les sanitaires sont entretenue quotidiennement, les wc n'ont pas de rabat car cela est plus hygiénique. Cordialement Olivier

Local attractions

There’s plenty to do with the kids here. Parc Nature de Cheval (five minutes’ drive) offers up a medieval-themed mini-farm, equestrian shows and nature walks, while Randoland treasure hunts lead kids right from the campsite and around the delightful streets of Harskirchen (15 minutes’ walk) to learn about its history with puzzles and questions. Get your game cards at reception. And history features big here too. In the village of Dehlingen (20 minutes), the secrets of the Alsace Bossue region’s Gallo-Roman past are revealed in the Villa Archaeological Heritage Interpretation Centre. Would-be archaeologists can also visit Gurtelbach (25 minutes), where the foundations of a Gallo-Roman farmstead have been unearthed. In fact, the whole area is rich in culture. The former Counts of Nassau built the 14th-century Château de Lorentzen (15 minutes), now open for tours and exhibitions, and constructed many religious buildings such as the Stengel churches, with tall spires and ornate interiors, which you can visit in Sarre-Union (10 minutes) as well as Harskirchen.
