  • Spacious and family-friendly site on the edge of Sapareva Banya
  • A 20-minute drive to the cable car for the Seven Rila Lakes
  • Thermal pools complex on site, plus sauna, bar and playground
Get set for some proper unwinding – it’s all about soothing body and mind when you stay at 7 Lakes Camping, a spacious site on the edge of Sapareva Banya that’s centred around a fabulous thermal pools complex. This town boasts the hottest mineral spring water in all of Europe, and it’s said that the waters can be beneficial to various physical conditions as well as just being a lovely way to relax. Guests at 7 Lakes can get their fix easily enough, with two main pools (one of which has massage jets), a kids’ pool, a mineral-water Jacuzzi and a plunge pool filled with cold mountain water. A sauna and a bar sit on the poolside, and there are lots of sun loungers where you can soak up the views between dips. And what views they are, looking up to the peaks of the Rila Mountains. If you fancy a closer look, there are lots of opportunities for hiking, cycling, horse riding and climbing nearby – or perhaps a day of skiing in Borovets during the winter months? All such activities are surely made better by the promise of a good soak in the hot waters when you get back… The pools may be the highlight, but they’re not the only facilities on site – there’s also a playground, a table tennis area and a coworking area where you can use the wifi and catch up on work (if you must…). A shop, launderette, barbecue area, shared kitchen and well-equipped bathrooms also help to make life nice and simple.

Liked: Everything, this site is clean, great facilities, you have good size pitches, electric is included in the price, staff are friendly and helpful. There is washing facilities, shops walkable distance, pools are nice, but facilities are important and everything from the washing up area to the showers and toilets they are all 100% clean

Disliked: Life guards a bit ore occupied with each other and not on the pool. People were allowed to get in the pools in their underwear and not swim wear

Local attractions

The Rila National Park is packed with gorgeous scenery, and there are trails for all abilities to help you get a taste of it. Have a chat with reception staff on site and they can point you towards everything from child-friendly short walks to full day hikes. They’ve also got tips on other activities including climbing and horse riding, and you can hire bikes on site for easy outings as well. In winter, you might like to hit the pistes of Borovets (40 minutes' drive). A real highlight, of course, is the Seven Rila Lakes, a group of glacial lakes high up in the mountains. To get there you can take the easy option and ride up in the cable car from Panichishte (20 minutes) or set yourselves more of a challenge by hiking from Lovna Hut (35 minutes). It’s worth spending some time wandering around Sapareva Banya too, looking out for the main church and the geyser in the central square. Samokov (25 minutes) and Govedartsi (40 minutes) are other towns to visit, and there’s also a lot to explore at the Tsari Mali Grad museum complex (20 minutes).
