  • Well-equipped Flanders holiday park on the edge of Jabbeke
  • Bruges or Ostend 15 minutes' drive; half an hour to Blankenberge beach
  • Restaurants and kids' activities; playground and pétanque court
Bruges 15 minutes’ drive in one direction, Ostend and the Flanders coast the same amount in the other, easy access from the A10 motorway… and right here by the site a small lake, a beach (open in July and August only) and a whole lot of open space in which to relax. Yes, it’s safe to say that Vakantiepark Klein Strand is in an excellent location for an action-packed family holiday. This well-equipped holiday park is just on the edge of Jabbeke, about 10 minutes’ walk from the town’s shops, cafés and restaurants. If you don’t feel like going that far, no worries – there are two small restaurants on site (a Chinese and another serving up family favourites like pizzas and burgers), and you’re welcome to light up a barbecue as well. Working up an appetite shouldn’t be difficult at all, given the many activities available on site or nearby. A real highlight of this park is the lifeguarded lakefront beach with waterslides, which is open in July and August for swimming; it is close to the A10 and you may hear some traffic noise. From May to the end of September, sign yourself up for watersports for an additional fee too. Elsewhere are a playground and pétanque court, and the site runs kids’ and teens’ activities in high season (giving parents a chance to chill out on the park’s terrace or around the gardens). More activity? You got it. There are some lovely areas nearby for walks and bike rides, and you can easily take days out in Bruges (15 minutes’ drive), Ghent (35 minutes) or up at the coast in places like Ostend (15 minutes) and Blankenberge (half an hour).

Spacious, private pitches & friendly staff. Easy bus/bike access to Bruges. On-site bar, restaurant & lake with aqua park popular with families. Some noise from roads/guests noted. Showers pricey; sanitary facilities need more attention due to high usage.

Fully-serviced grass touring pitch

Liked Pleasant site. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Facilities good and generally clean.

Disliked Hard standing pitches very good, just not enough of them. Grass pitches ok, with plenty of room. The placement for the water tap wasn't great on our pitch as our standard size hose wouldn't reach it without unhooking the EHU and taking the MH off the levelling blocks.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Location and ease of getting to Bruge
Bruge was well worth a visit

Disliked Pitch was messy uneven ground, we were 3 adults and they gave us a pitch right next to the play area, on arrival a few children were nicely playing then 2 bouncy castles were inflated and we had the constant noise of kids screaming and big groups hanging around next to our pitch, then at 5pm a portacabin next to us opened up as an amusement arcade creating further noise! The electric hookup point was actually a loose cable dumped in the hedge, not much regard for health and safety!
Pitchup had stated our fee included showers but on arrival we had to pay separately, a euro for 2minutes, the showers were dirty, only 4 showers for the whole site and big gaps in the doors.
I think some of the static caravans were lived in full time which didn’t feel right. Strangely the site was surrounded by new houses being built on 1 side and the other side there were semi derilect holiday apartments and a hotel

Fully-serviced grass touring pitch

Liked The ease to get by bus to Bruges and back 3 euros each way drops you off right in the city. Short walk to get on the bus and a fantastic bakery just opposite where if yi6u are a bit early for the bus you can get brilliant pastries and coffee whikst waiting for the bus. The site has really good sized pitches . Toilets need a rethink. There is nit enough. Always a que for the showers and you can't avoid seeing straight into the men's urinals as you leave

Disliked The shower system was too complicated don't see the need to keep locking and unlocking a toilet block

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Easy access to main road to Calais.
Nearby bus to Bruges

Disliked €5 for a 10 minute shower is hugely excessive.
Only 2 ladies showers for the whole site so lots of people queuing, one lady had to take her children into the gents showers.
No hand dryer or towels in the ladies toilets.
Noisy until 1.30 am.
Cigarette butts everywhere.
Expensive and you don’t get high quality. I would not recommend.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Good location for getting into Bruges. Nice pitches surrounded by hedging, which was good for privacy.

Disliked We were right next to the arcade, which had loud music blasting out on our first night until after midnight. There were also lots of groups milling about and making a lot of noise until late into the night.

Also, for the price paid you’d expect showers to be included. An additional charge of €5 for showers seems excessive.

Despite the good location, we wouldn’t return as it was too busy and noisy.

Local attractions

Gentle walks and bike rides part of your holiday plan? Start local with trips to the Maskobossen forest (five minutes’ drive/10 minutes’ cycle) or visit one of the last Flemish polder hayland landscapes at the Paddegat nature reserve (10 minutes’ drive/15 minutes’ cycle). A little further afield is the coastal scenery of the Zwin Nature Park (35 minutes’ drive), where you can also take a walk on the beach. Speaking of beaches, there are some lovely beach towns along the coast, including Blankenberge (half an hour), with its aquarium and Art Nouveau buildings, and Knokke-Heist (35 minutes), a local favourite for its nine kilometres of sand. A day trip to Bruges (15 minutes) should certainly be on the cards too, for a boat tour on the canals, a climb up the Belfry Tower, some art at the Groeningemuseum and a wander around all the pretty streets and squares. If you’ve got more days to fill, you could also take a trip to Ghent (35 minutes) or visit the battlefields and In Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres (50 minutes).
