When you roll up to this place surrounded by the greenery of the Karri Valley, you’ll be sure that RAC Karri Valley Resort is a place for the outdoorsy types. Next door to an activity centre and 15 minutes’ walk from Beedelup Recreational Lake, you could spend a day hiking, canoeing, paddleboarding or cycling, before returning to the site's outdoor barbecue area to get sausages, burgers and vegetable skewers sizzling before sundown.
A wildlife haven would be another phrase for this family-friendly site, given its location in Karri Forest, within walking distance of The Beedelup Falls and Frogs Leap Jetty along the Bibbulmun track. However, your first stop might be the activity centre 800 metres walk away through Karri Forest (and an even shorter bike ride).
Between the activity centre and the site, there are walking trails, bicycle hire, canoe or paddleboard rental, an 18-hole miniature golf course, animal farm (with daily feeding activities available to book), BMX track, tennis court and fishing, archery, birdwatching and volleyball activities.
When you’re done with activities for the day, there’s a modern camp kitchen, a restaurant (serving breakfast, lunch and dinner daily) and a large recreation room to let any meals go down.
It’s not too tricky to find the supplies you need, considering the site is on the opposite side of the Vasse highway and 15 minutes’ drive from Pemberton. The town has a handy fuel station, supermarkets, retail shops and a place to source a bottle of wine.

Local attractions
Tucked into a landscape that has waterfalls, tall tree trunks and scenic hikes, you should feel quite in tune with nature by the end of your stay. In Warren National Park, the Heartbreak Trail (10 minutes’ drive) weaves in between 90-metre karri trees.
They may look spectacularly tall, so it’s a real test of nerve if you decide to climb the Dave Evans Bicentennial Tree (15 minutes) or Gloucester Tree (20 minutes). Both have pegs for adventurous sorts to climb towards the canopies.
After those activities, you may be pleased to get back down to earth and sip on some chardonnay or merlot in the Mountford Wines and Tangletoe Cidery (15 minutes) or go for a picnic and a cycle at the Big Brook Dam Foreshore & Picnic Area (25 minutes).
There’s a cascade waterfall in Gloucester National Park (20 minutes) for more hikes, but to enjoy the scenery without exerting yourself, the Pemberton Tramway Company (15 minutes) runs train trips into the forests and countryside. Once you’re back in town, visit the historic Pemberton Swimming Pool (15 minutes) that was once used by timber workers in the 1920s.
