  • Quiet, family-friendly glamping location surrounded by tall gum trees
  • A 15-minute drive from the Perth Hills and 40 minutes from Perth
  • Barbecue area provided; convenience store, restaurants and bars nearby
With tall gum trees on all sides and a bush location, Chalets on Stoneville could be the definition of a wildlife haven. This quiet getaway feels remote, what with the peaceful birdsong you’ll hear from your veranda and the 20-acre setting. Still, Perth is just 40 minutes’ drive to the west if you’d like to combine your retreat with the lights and action of the big city. It's just as well that you’ve got a dedicated barbecue area for sizzling your sausages, burgers and other favourite sandwich fillers. The surrounding landscapes have all the potential to get your heart racing and let off some much-needed steam, whether it’s with your family, friends or solo. A 15-minute drive away, the Perth Hills Discovery Centre will kickstart those nature-based outdoor activities. Perhaps follow the Bibbulmun Track to the shore of Mundaring Weir or put your faith in one of the biking trails that goes into the forest. With vineyards and orchards along the Perth Hills Cider and Brew Trail, canoeing at Lake Leschenaultia (20 minutes’ drive) and many more routes around the hills, there’s plenty to keep you occupied. Those of you looking for a very leisurely stroll might choose to make the most of the site’s peaceful environment instead. There are a couple of bars within five minutes’ drive of the site and places to eat and supermarkets in Mundaring, five minutes’ drive away, when you're looking for replenishments.

Local attractions

Sling your picnic over your shoulder and sit under the stars at the Kookaburra Cinema (15 minutes’ drive) in the Perth Hills' forest. Since the start time is at dusk, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to explore by the day… Perhaps pick up some honey or beeswax lip balm from Bees Neez Apiaries (20 minutes) and then visit the Karakamia Sanctuary (15 minutes), where endangered animals indigenous to the Darling Scarp can be seen on a pre-booked guided walk. The sanctuary runs spotlighting in the night to spot nocturnal animals too. Art fans are likely to enjoy Aylward Studios (25 minutes), which presents the work of Brian Aylward, along with other paintings and sculptures from local artists. There’s more artwork on show at the Mundaring Arts Centre (10 minutes), while Mundaring Weir Gallery (15 minutes) focuses on artists and designers from the Perth Hills. If you’re here on the second Sunday of every month, the Mundaring Sunday Markets (10 minutes) are a great place for a stroll. Places that will help you get to know local history include the No 1 Pump Station (15 minutes), an early goldfields supply pipeline, and the Mundaring District Museum (five minutes) or Perth Hills Mundaring Visitor Centre (five minutes).
