General

  • Back to basics camping site on five acres of Pembrokeshire farmland
  • A 10-minute drive from beaches; half an hour from St Davids
  • Dog-friendly site with eco compost toilets and campfires welcome

The name may be Fairview but it’s highly likely you’ll consider the views at this rural Pembrokeshire site to be rather more than fair: there’s peaceful farmland all around and a good vista of the Preseli Hills from the top of the hill on site (if you’re an artist you might want to pack some supplies, say the owners – it’s the kind of outlook that inspires people to paint…)

And it’s not just the outlook that’s likely to meet with approval – there’s also tons of space for kids and dogs to run about here (Fairview Farm stretches to five acres, in fact) and chickens, ducks, donkeys, llamas, alpacas, llampacas (you do the math) to meet on site too, to boost that rural vibe a little further.

And it’s not just the countryside that’s fab around here – the coast is pretty special too, and it’s only a mere 10-minute drive to the coast from here. The location here is fairly central to St Bride’s Bay, so you can pick from Newgale (for surfing), Broad Haven (for family paddling), Nolton Haven (for horse riding) and Druidston Haven (for sea cave explores).

Stays at this site are described as ‘semi-wild camping’, which means that you’ll be able to pick a pitch you like the look of but you’ll also have access to basic amenities like drinking water and clean eco-friendly compost toilets. Dogs are welcome on site, as are campfires in firepits; friendly owners John and Ingrid can usually sort you out with some firewood and bricks to go round a campfire if you’d prefer to start a blaze the traditional way. For other bits and bobs, head to Haverfordwest, 10 minutes’ drive away.

we arrived later than expected so we found a field with tents already set up and pitched up in the dark (not the first time)and to our surprise we woke up to a stunning view. we introduced ourselves to a lady (the owner) riding around on a grass mower who was very friendly and helpful and didn't mind us turning up late..
we stayed for 2 nights there was clean water at hand and showers and a compost loo which were very clean and chemical free. we also got to meet the 2 residential donkeys and llamas who are friendly. well we didn't get spat at lol
A 15minute drive to Broad Haven beach lovely little villages to see but u will need transport or be pretty fit if you like walking.
will be returning for more getaways

Lovely site and great people. We stayed in our Vw Transporter with awning.
We had the had to ourselves for much of the stay, which was a luxury! The hosts were very helpful. You can borrow fire pits and buy wood, have a game of table tennis or badminton or just soak in the views.
The sits was in an excellent location! We visited lots of different towns and beaches, surfed, saw seals, had lovely potters around Tenby and Fishguard etc. No where felt too far away!
The composting toilet was great for us but it’s not for everyone. The showers were hot and the site was huge! Plenty of space to spread out!

    Disliked:

Composting toilets were great for us but not everyone’s cup or tea.

Lovely well kept field in the middle of nowhere it is perfect.
The children were free to do whatever and we knew they were safe. The toilets are a scream. Haha 😂 we had some laughs seeing the posh people in our group using the sawdust to cover their little otters haha
We were a large group of 17 families children of all ages. They had a few play things in a tent that our children called the clubhouse. It was sweet. They try really hard to make sure all needs are covered. Ingrid aloud us to put a 25 metre slip and slide in her field for all the kids. It was a boiling weekend. We stayed 3 nights and it honestly wasn’t enough.
We decorated in an Hawaiian theme, we all dressed up sang drunk and had an amazing time while at fair view. Highly recommend and we WILL be returning next year. Thank you Ingrid for the experience.

Toilets not great (no flush, just composting toilet using woodchips). Not enough showers for whole campsite during busy periods.

Local attractions

Beach life is never far off around Pembrokeshire, and the roster of sandy stretches around Farview is a particularly fine one: Druidston Haven, Broad Haven, Nolton Haven and Newgale are all excellent places to visit, with gorgeous views and activities galore. None is more than 10 minutes’ drive from the farm.

Elsewhere along the coast, make a detour to Dale (25 minutes’ drive) to board boat trips to Skomer, a wildlife paradise packed with puffins and popular with other seabirds, seals and dolphins too. If you’d rather stick to dry land, get your boots on and pick a chunk of the Wales Coast Path to stride along.

The pick of the area’s historic sights might be Picton Castle & Gardens (20 minutes), along with the must-see cathedral and Bishop’s Palace in St Davids (half an hour). Book ahead for boats over to Ramsey Island from St Davids, and plan to stop off in the pretty fishing village of Solva (20 minutes) en route to the UK’s smallest city too.

Must see

  • Pembrokeshire Coast National Park (14.6 kilometres)
  • St Davids Cathedral (16.3 kilometres)
  • Pembroke Castle (17.5 kilometres)

National Trust

  • St David's Visitor Centre and Shop (16.4 kilometres)
  • Stackpole Estate (22.5 kilometres)
