General

  • Relaxed back-to-nature park with stunning Pembrokeshire coast views
  • Less than a mile from Abereiddy Beach and the Blue Lagoon
  • Campfires and dogs allowed

A laidback atmosphere, back-to-nature family camping and easy proximity to the best of Pembrokeshire await at friendly Coastal Stay, a small park tucked away enough to be peaceful but only a few miles from the sights of St Davids.

The owners point out that this isn't a hi-tech site, but if you want to build dens with the kids or teach them how to forage blackberries, you should find things very suitable here. It's heavenly stargazing land too, perfect for watching the skies around a campfire after watching the sun set into the sea at Abereiddy.

You should find the views very suitable too, spectacularly stretching out over the north Pembrokeshire Coast National Park in a National Trust conservation area. And the location, less than a mile from Abereiddy beach and the Blue Lagoon, and a mile from the fishing village of Porthgain.

Pitches are well spaced out and set around a natural spring-fed lake (please take care around the lake if you have younger kids). Amenities include top-notch bathroom facilities with a double-size hot water power shower, toilet, wash basin and mirror, and a cold water tap and table outside for dishwashing.

Coastal Stay also has a kitchen with wood-fired oven cooking up handmade pizzas for guests to take away. Grocery and camping essentials like toilet roll, milk, eggs, spare tent pegs and windbreakers are for sale in the local shop, a mile and a half away.

Children and well-behaved dogs are most welcome – you'll find Coastal Stay's own dog, goat and pair of miniature horses on site as well – but please keep dogs under control and on leads to avoid disturbing other guests.

Beautiful glamping bell tent with great facilities.
The bed was warm and comfy and the fairy lights were a lovely touch.
We stayed for bank holiday weekend, sat out in the evenings with a log burner, fantastic views towards the coastline and enjoyed the sunset.
The hosts were very welcoming and helpful. They made sure everything was just right for us. It was a very safe and clean environment.
We enjoyed the pizzas made on site.
    Would not hesitate to recommend.

We absolutely loved our stay in the glamping tent. Everything was supplied so didn’t need to worry about anything. Really clean facilities, super friendly staff, very cute goats and the most amazing views. An added bonus are the onsite pizzas which are delicious.

Beautiful views and even in the very bleak midwinter the site was lovely. Some of the facilities had been closed because of the risk of frost damage but we used the the indoor facilities which was super because it was so warm.
We had a gravel pitch which is great because it had been so wet.
Despite being quite poorly our hosts were very kind and keen to help with directions etc

    Disliked:

Not really a dislike but we were sad we couldn't use the fire pits, which look great by the way, because it was so wet and so cold.
Also if you're visiting the site in bad weather please be aware that the food venues at the port do not allow dogs in so be prepared to sit outside if you want to eat.

    Good view. Facilities were nice.

    Disliked:

Made to feel abit like we were an inconvenience when we arrived - especially after we got stuck on a pitch that they told us to go on. We paid for a pitch which had electricity and would allow us to pitch up an awning. Had to sleep in the carpark with no awning on the first night because there were no pitches available (which we wouldn't get stuck in the mud on) despite pre-booking.

From the manager...

Were sorry you felt aggrieved, unfortunately we were all were ill with the flu over xmas and the weather has been the wettest winter for many years. we do really care about our customers feeling welcome, we were not at our best due to illness and appalling weather conditions.

We had a very pleasant time at Coastal Stay over the past weekend. Campsite itself is split into different areas and we had a pitch in the field on the right of the main house and WC block, above a small bird sanctuary. Lots of room on the pitch (we had a campervan) and a large table and firepit are provided. WC / shower block is small but we never experienced a que and everything worked as expected. There is also a WC/ Shower inside the house.

The site is located around a 25min walk down to the beach and from there you can head north or south on the stunning coastal path. Views out to sea from the whole site and stunning sun sets from the top of the hill (but best experienced from the beach). We would recommend to friends and hope to visit again.

Local attractions

St Davids, Britain's smallest city, is a few miles down the road and has plenty of places to eat and drink as well as a host of old treasures to see such as St Davids Cathedral and the ruins of the Bishops Palace; very decent surf at Whitesands Bay is available from here too.

If you're here to hike, a frequent bus service stops right outside the site to and from St Davids, Fishguard and Haverfordwest to access the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. There are also plenty of local walks for all ages and abilities straight from the site and the Coastal Stay pitches overlook a natural valley leading to the sea for a highly scenic walk to Abereiddy.

Take the walk from Abereiddy beach over the top of the Blue Lagoon and onto Porthgain, with a pitstop for a bite or drink before catching a bus straight back to the site.
