Church bay beach

  • Dog-friendly Anglesey pop-up site with views of the sea and Snowdonia
  • Walking distance from beaches, the coastal path and summit trails
  • Walk to the pub, seafood restaurant and café; shops a short drive out
Wake up and walk the Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path, or perhaps challenge yourself to a local hill summit. Based on the northwest coast of Anglesey, you’ll have lots of choice over how to spend your time from Llain Ffynnon Camping. A morning brew over the site's sea views? Taking the 15-minute walk down the closest beach for a quick dip in the sea? Or perhaps you’d rather go for a dog walk towards the mountains (after all, dogs are welcome here too). You’ll need a good pair of shoes, that’s for sure. One of the big perks of this site is that it’s easy to get to many places on foot. The local pub in Church Bay is only half an hour’s walk away. It’s also on the way to the rockpools at Porth Swtan beach (40 minutes’ walk) or the seafood restaurant and café close to the shore. You’ll get an idea of the splendid walks around these parts just from glancing at the views from this site. Based quite high up, Llain Ffynnon Camping doesn’t just have views over the northwest coast – you'll catch Snowdonia's mountains, Ireland, the Isle of Man and the northwest of England on a clear day too. The site is only a short walk from access points to several well-maintained public footpaths, including one with access to the Mynydd y Garn summit. If you need to pack some snacks and sandwiches before you go, there are two local food shops in Llanfaethlu or Tregele, 10 minutes’ drive from the site. Please note that this is a pop-up site, so there are only cold-water shower and toilet facilities available.

What customers say

Lovely, chilled spot with amazing sea views & sunsets. Owners are super friendly & keep facilities spotless. Great value, though showers can be a bit nippy & it can get windy. Most folk can't wait to come back!

Non-electric grass and earth touring pitch

Liked Peaceful location with wonderful views. 40 minute hilly walk to church bay beach. Facilities are spotless and great care is taken. Pitch where you want site on a sloping hill but found it fairly easy to find a reasonably flat pitch.

Disliked Very low water pressure.

Non-electric grass and earth tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked What a fantastic bank holiday weekend we had. Family of 4 (plus 2 dogs).

After booking online I was slightly apprehensive due to the low cost and what the site would be like.

We arrived early on Friday (no mandatory check in time) and were soon greeted by 2 of the male staff members (apologies I never caught their names). They were so friendly and welcoming and advised that their sister would be round to collect our payment later on.

We set up close to the toilet facilities (always a toss up between a a stupid move and a brave move, due to potential smells and foot traffic, but it’s a close walk in the middle of the night when the kids realise that they did need that wee before bed after all).

The facilities… wow…they were undoubtedly the cleanest campsite toilets I’ve ever seen! And it’s not a surprise… there was constantly a female (sorry no name again) with a mop in hand ensuring they were kept to the highest standards!

We paid cash for our stay and set up for the night with the most incredible views!

The following morning we were able to purchase some fresh farm eggs from the owners. There’s something about fresh eggs that just taste so much better!

A member of staff gave us some tips where to visit and off to church bay beach we went. It took us around 30ish minutes and was well worth it for the stunning location.

We went past a pub on the way, but were more interested in the scones at the cafe next to the beach!

That night we took a short 10 minute drive to the next town to pick up some lovely fish and chips.

Then back to the campsite which had gotten a bit busier but with plenty of room per pitch (and no restrictions on location and pitch size) we had ample space.

All together a fantastic site! With the friendliest staff! And we can’t wait to come back in more ‘risky weather’ in October!

Local attractions

You might first spot the Goleudŷ Ynysoedd y Moelrhoniaid (The Skerries Lighthouse) from the Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path. Up close, after a chartered boat ride from Holyhead (25 minutes’ drive), the view is even better, and the birdwatching just as splendid. The seabird colony at Cemlyn North Wales Wildlife Trust Reserve (10 minutes’ drive) is pretty spectacular to watch too. A shingle ridge, lagoon and plants such as sea kale and sea campion are part of the highlight reel at this place – just the thing if you're a fan of spying on wildlife. Those of you who are planning on spending a lot of your downtime beside the sea will be happy to find that there are a number of beaches that are easy to get to from Llain Ffynnon Camping. In fact, the National Trust’s Traeth Ynys y Fydlyn is half an hour’s walk away, and there are caves and rockpools to rummage around down there. Further out, other gorgeous beach locations include Cemlyn Bay (15 minutes’ drive), Porth Trwyn (10 minutes) and Traeth Porth Wen Beach (15 minutes).
