A peaceful woodland setting
Grass and hardstanding pitches from the entrance gate
Pitches with eryri mountain views

  • Small and peaceful Gwynedd site on the edge of Eryri National Park
  • Zip World Penrhyn Quarry five minutes’ drive; Conwy Castle 25 minutes
  • Wildflower meadows, a lake and woodland paths; pubs five minutes’ walk
With access to the wildflower meadows, gardens, woodland walks and calming views over the lake, life at Gwynedd’s Bryn Llys should be pretty peaceful and relaxing. This small, dog-friendly site is set in parkland on a private estate 15 minutes’ drive away from Bangor in North Wales. You are never too far away from stunning views of the mountains in Eryri National Park (formerly Snowdonia), and the six areas of the UNESCO-listed Slate Landscape of Northwest Wales. A five-minute walk through the woods takes you straight to the local village of Bethesda, where there are two well-stocked shops selling local produce; you can also call in at the pubs or order takeaways if you’re off cooking on your Eryri break. Bryn Llys has toilet facilities and a smart, modern shower room; other amenities include chemical waste, grey water disposal and recycling. Access from the main A5 and A55 trunk roads is easy, and the site’s gateway, drive and site are all accessible for large motorhomes and towing vehicles.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Loved this site with its lovely pitches and utter tranquility. Wonderful toilet/shower block and a terrific host who is entirely approachable and extremely helpful.
Enjoyed a brief ride on the on-site narrow gauge railway, great to see proper enthusiasm.
Site is well placed for Bethesda, Zip World and the Snowdonia Slate Trail.

Gerne wieder.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Sehr freundlicher Gastgeber.
Stellplätze in toller Umgebung.

We had the best time during our stay and with definitely be returning!

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked When you arrived at the campsite you are greeted by Carlo who runs the site, he takes you to the pitch personally and explains the lay of the land. Everything was done to the highest spec, and clean! The shower room was so lovely, and looked like it was from a hotel not a campsite! (It was £1 for a 5 minute shower, so remember to bring coins!). We stayed at Bryn Llys for two nights, and the first night we had a problem with the wind (we have a tent box) so Carlo found us a new pitch for the next evening no problems. The campsite and the owner were absolutely lovely and would definitely stay again! We definitely recommend. Very peaceful atmosphere!

Disliked The only thing I could think of is to have access to a hairdryer in the shower room! I understand of course this is a luxury!

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely camp site, very clean, good facilities, and beautiful walks around the park, and friendly staff,

Disliked The only thing was the hedges needed a cut back as you enter the camp site, was a bit of a tight squeeze with our motor home, which it scratched alongside the motorhome as we drove through it, which was a shame as our van was a brand new motor home. Otherwise everything was perfect.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Absolutely beautiful site set in stunning grounds that you are encouraged to wander around. It’s like a secret garden every turn has something else to find!
Pitches well spaced and all hard standing. We were on the top pitches and the mountain views were beautiful. Mornings and evenings were spent admiring the views with a sense of calm and peace that was uplifting. We were sent a very helpful guide before arrival that included great location advice then welcomed in person and given the option of where to park with some insight into pros of each pitch too.
The site is enormous and yet they have only a few caravan/motorhome spaces which makes it feel intimate and relaxing.
Toilets always clean and very well kept. It now has a lovely shower room at £1.00 for 5 minutes of hot water which is plenty of time.
Lovely woodland walk to local shops.
Dog friendly site with lots of paths to walk with the reasonable, usual requests for using leads and immediate clean ups of course.
There are full recycling facilities on the site. Make sure you take green compost bags for your food waste as this has to be bagged before using the food bin.
Lots to see in the area and the site is well placed to make a great base for getting out and about in the day then returning back to relax and enjoy your evenings.

Disliked Nothing at all to dislike. Impossible to find fault. The town is a bit run down sadly however there are a couple of shops for groceries and take away food options if you want them. Also a few pubs/ restaurants open at various days of the week. With such a beautiful site and those stunning views if you fancy a relaxing drink I’d recommend heading back to the site anyway.
Maybe a washing up area would be nice but not essential from our perspective.

Route directions

Avoid using satnav as this will direct you down a narrow dead-end lane. Instead, exit the A55 at Junction 11 for Bangor. Head for Zip World and Bethesda. Drive through the village and turn right, signposted Zip World. From the A5, take the first left into the village, signposted Zip World. Follow the road past the entrance to Zip World, and continue for half mile past a row of single-storey cottages on the left. Look out for the site signs on your right after two sharp bends.

Local attractions

Once you’ve chuffed around the grounds on Bryn Llys’s own miniature railway, head for the full-size train ride up Eryri from the Mountain Railway Station (20 minutes’ drive). Another vintage steam train runs through stunning landscapes on the Beddgelert Welsh Highland Railway (35 minutes). Bryn Llys sits on the doorstep of Eryri National Park, offering easy access to climbing, hiking and biking in spectacular mountains and valleys. Cyclists and walkers can follow the Lôn Las Ogwen or Eryri Slate Trail from Bangor (15 minutes), and if you want to try some more fear-inducing activities, the notorious Velocity zipwire runs across Penrhyn Quarry at Zip World (five minutes). The site is also a handy base for exploring fantastic beaches like sandy Traeth Llanddwyn (40 minutes) on Anglesey. While you’re there, inject a bit of culture into your holiday with a tour of the art collections and manicured grounds at National Trust-owned Plas Newydd House and Gardens (20 minutes). Skip back to the mainland across the landmark Britannia Bridge (15 minutes) to discover the mighty castles at Conwy and Caernarfon (both 25 minutes).
