  • Laidback site with 8.5 acres in Bryneglwys village
  • A 25-minute drive from Lake Bala and 40 minutes from Chester
  • Fresh eggs, friendly farm animals and a well-stocked outdoor bar
A chilled site in a quiet corner of Denbighshire, New Inn is a fine place to bag a relaxed rural break. With its splendid views, this popular little spot is within easy reach of attractions in and around Snowdonia, Chester and beyond. Although the former pub is permanently closed, it has a well-stocked outdoor bar called the Wobbly Dog selling draft beer and seasonal local produce. The peaceful park is also a five-minute stroll from Bryneglwys village centre, where the local stores and tea room are on hand to sort out any off-site food needs. Need to organise a bulk shop? Corwen (15 minutes' drive) is home to a bigger range of grocery shops. One of the big draws of New Inn is the number of simple pleasures to be had here, like collecting your own eggs from the site's friendly hens or watching the tame sheep frolicking through the grass. There's also ample room for setting up bonfires or barbecues and for roaming through the wilder parts of the 8.5-acre grounds. The facilities at this back to basics spot are low-key but well-maintained, with a toilet block that's got four toilets, four hot-water sinks, two showers and a washing-up sink. Phone charging is available too, to help you keep power up for your outings.

Non-electric grass campervan or tent pitch (pet friendly)

Liked The stars in the sky.

Disliked I wasnt going to leave a bad review after you thanked us before we left for not leaving a bad review (even though we never agreed to this).. but based on your reply to my friend who has left an honest review, I might as well clarify and put a few things into context here.

1. My friend asked to extend her stay before seeing the pitch she was given so that is completely irrelevant.

2. I believe the 'friend' youre referring to in your response to her review is me. I did not complain about absolutely everything that is extremely dramatic and untrue. I purely stated the facts which my friend has also done. You just didnt like that I was honest, perhaps youre not used to people being honest and putting up with poor standards.

3. Your comment about me that 'nothing was good enough for her' is utter rubbish and extremely unprofessional. I thanked you multiple times and was very respectful. I even bought ice cream and drinks from your shop before we left.

4. I did not talk anyone into leaving. They said how horrific the spot was, dangerous the main road was to our pitch with children on and dreaded the thought of spending one more night in that place. Do not come at me for being the person who spoke to you. It needed to be one of us and that person was me.

5. The demographic of who uses the bar shows other campers that it isnt a family friendly campsite.. its more of a pub with a field attached, meaning the customers are your locals rather than campers.. to add to this, radom men drinking by themselves outside the bar is situated right by showers where children are getting showered and it's completely inappropriate- hope that clarifies the relevance to you now.

6. The 24 case of water you provided.. The day we arrived, i expressed my concern that you have no running water available on the front field and asked if you had anything we could carry water to our tent. You said you had a water container that could be rolled that you could provide. I said yes please but you never turned up with it. It was only until 24 hours the next day the bottles of water appeared.. which was too late by then. You saw me and my friend struggling in the heat, yet you chose to wait until the next day to provide the 'gesture of goodwill'

7. Im sure you do have many many happy customers - we all paid online but you insisted on paying one of us in cash - not sure if that was to avoid your ratings or if thats something you do often to prevent people from leaving bad reviews.. just a thought.

8. It is not an 'us' problem. Its not described as what it is on the website. Its not a farm like it states, it doesnt state how busy the main road is that runs next to the fields with traffic going at 60mph throughout the night.

9. You swanned around the campsite with your bottle of corona with an air of arrogance. Your response to my friend clearly highlights how unprofessional you are. Putting 'mala leche!' Makes you sound extremely childish and based on your reply to my friend I will ensure your campsite remains a site we will talk about to others so that they are aware what kind of owner you are and the truth about what your campsite offers. Good luck with your business because you are clearly NOT a family friendly site and would prefer to waltz around with your beer in hand, in denial and unwilling to accept feedback. You are just angry now because we have left honest reviews but by responding so disgustingly to my friend after her review, you just make it x10 worse for your business because your pride was damaged.

From the manager: 1. Your friend was stood on her pitch when she asked to extend her stay.

2. Clearly you're aware of how difficult you are then!

3. This demonstrates that clearly the bar isn't just used by the locals then as you used it yourself.

4. The field is fully stock fenced all along the road into the village with the exception of the entrance to the car park, 200 yards away from where you were pitched.

5. This point is factually incorrect and just ridiculous and you know it.

6. .It wasn't 24 hours, it was the first opportunity I had to go shopping having found my rolly container leaking with a split in it .

7. This point is just defamatory. When refunding a booking there is a tab that says 'refund via Stripe'. When I went to refund one of these bookings Stripe could not find the payment as it had been paid via a payment link and not Stripe. This was explained to you while I was refunding your money.

8. Pitchup uses AI to generate the description and therefore this is out of our control. The road going past our field is the road going into the village and is a 20 mph speed limit.

9. Again this is just defamatory for the sake of it. Mala leche is a Spanish saying to describe someone that is being spiteful. I think staying somewhere for the night, leaving with a full refund while the owner of the campsite is climbing in the bin sorting out your rubbish because you can't manage to do your own recycling and then leaving a bad review when you get home, is about as spiteful as it gets. Oh, and for the record I can't stand Corona!!

Unfortunately we wouldn’t recommend for families

Liked Urmmm the chickens for the kids

Disliked Honest Review

Unfortunately, this campsite just wasn’t for us. It is situated very close to a very busy and noisy road, which we didn’t feel was particularly safe or suitable for young children.

There was no lighting around our pitch and no water nearby, which made things difficult, especially with children. We also wouldn’t personally describe it as a farm. There were a few chickens and a pig, although we didn’t actually see the pig during our stay.

The bar was very busy and quite noisy, and it seemed more geared towards locals and friends of the owners rather than families staying on the campsite. There also wasn’t anything nearby for children or much on-site to entertain them.

We decided to leave a day early. To be fair, we raise our concerns in the morning and packed up, the owners were very kind and gave us a full refund and also provided us with some water, which we really appreciated.

It’s such a shame because the site has great potential, but unfortunately, for our family and what we were looking for from a camping trip, it just wasn’t the right fit.

From the manager: NOT an entirely honest review.

On arrival you extended your stay by 2 nights saying you were very happy with the situation, then your friend turned up who complained about absolutely everything from the moment she arrived. Nothing we did was good enough for her and I think she talked you all into leaving early.

Yes, the bar does get busy but closes at 10.30 p.m., and why the demographic of who's using the bar bears any relevance to your stay is beyond me.

We provided you with a case of 24 bottles of water free of charge which is more than 'some', and you were told if you needed more to let us know and we would deliver it to your pitch. You were also given a full refund when you told me you weren't happy, which was a gesture of goodwill as you were not entitled to it.

We have many, many happy customers and over 300 hundred 10 out of 10 reviews, this is clearly a you problem not an us problem. Mala leche!!

Non-electric grass campervan or tent pitch (pet friendly)

Liked We absolutely loved The New Inn and have already recommended the campsite to another 3 families. The little touches are wonderful. The owners Michaela and Lee are SO helpful and welcoming. If feels so peaceful and such a family friendly site. The facilities are great, everything you need in a campsite and more. We will miss morning coffees on the veranda and feeding the chickens, but mostly the kids will miss the family site dogs, Mackrell and Bisicuit.

There is a park just a short 5 minute walk away and a lovely little village with a community kitchen. But really except visiting the outstanding views nearby, we had no reason to leave this stunning place.

Pitches are huge, and we had the pitch featuring "the bear and the bench" which we absolutely loved.

We have already created a family tradition.. to make sure we visit this campsite atleast once every year!!

Disliked The owner kept asking for people to have their dogs on leads but then did not have their own dogs on leads which did cause stress to some with the interactions

From the manager: The owner (me) trains working gundogs. My dog though only 10 months old has perfect recall and is always under close control. She is great with kids (in fact a lot of them ask me to let her out so they can throw a ball for her). What makes you think you can dictate what happens on my property with my animals? I see you ticked the I would visit again tab, afraid not mate, I've blocked your details.

Local attractions

Get gallivanting through the green grounds of Erddig Hall (30 minutes' drive), Chirk Castle (30 minutes) or Ness Botanic Gardens (50 minutes) for fab floral displays, impressive buildings and splendid outdoor strolls. They have something else in common too: top-rated cafés where you can take afternoon tea in genteel garden surrounds. Those magnificently manicured spots strike a cracking contrast with wilder haunts like the shores of Lake Bala (25 minutes), Castell Dinas Brân (25 minutes) and Horseshoe Falls (20 minutes). There's also scope for giving your walking boots and mountain bikes a run for their money at Oneplanet Adventure (10 minutes), a forest visitor centre surrounded by a host of waymarked trails. Further full-on action can be found at the National White Water Centre (30 minutes), while those of a less intrepid temperament have Chester Zoo (40 minutes) not much further away. After making friends with sloths, elephants and jaguars, saunter down into the centre for a stroll down by the Dee or a laidback riverboat cruise.
