Planning a jaunt to north Wales in your tourer? If you’re a Caravan and Motorhome Club member, consider staying at Ffridd Uchaf Touring Site Certificated Location, tucked away in a peaceful corner of the Conwy countryside. This small and relaxed site is a family-run place that’s open to CAMC members only, welcoming families (plus dogs) to pitches with plenty of space to chill out in the fresh air. Large pitches mean you’ll be able to put up an awning or gazebo if you like, as well as having space for a barbecue and a couple of camping chairs. The views from the pitches are pretty nice – but they’re even better if you head through the gate and up the hill a little to the viewpoint, which looks over to Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park and the distinctive outline of the Carneddau mountains. Needless to say, this site is an excellent base for walks and other outdoor activities, and there are plenty of attractions around for all ages and tastes. Owners Gerallt and Lowri grew up in the area, so they’re full of great tips for places to go and things to do; feel free to pick their brains while you’re here. One thing they’ll almost certainly recommend is a trip to the local pub, about 15 minutes' walk away and with a good menu of home-cooked meals. Simple facilities on site include a chemical disposal point and a bathroom with toilet and shower, and each pitch has water and electric hook-ups.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch (members only)

Liked Nice quiet CL, 20 mins from Colwyn Bay. Although owners out left pitch number and information on front door. I am self sufficient so didn’t use toilets etc but chemical waste clean and easily accessible. Each pitch has EHU and water.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch (members only)

Liked We were fortunate to book this lovely site at very short notice, just 2 days before we arrived. Our original intention was to stay for 10 nights but we had such a wonderful time we kept extending our holiday and eventually stayed an extra 5 nights. In all honesty, we would have stayed even longer had there been availability but we eventually ran out of luck and had to come home!

Ffridd Uchaf is conveniently situated about 20 minutes' drive from Colwyn Bay and the North Wales Expressway making it an ideal base for touring the region and accessing a whole host of local attractions. Despite its relative proximity to the A55 it is, nevertheless, located in a scenic area with beautiful, far-reaching views towards the Eryri (Snowdonia) mountains and the coast.

Although those particular vistas are not visible from the pitches the outlook is still lovely plus the viewpoint at the top of the adjacent dog walking field affords wonderful views of the surrounding countryside and beyond.

The facilities are excellent and great value for money: dedicated water and EHU on each pitch; refuse and recycling bins; grey waste and chemical disposal points, the latter being the cleanest we've ever seen!

Free WiFi and a spotlessly clean combined toilet/shower room is also generously provided. Some people have commented that a separate shower and toilet would be preferable but as we use our on-board facilities and don't expect a 5 van CL to include such amenities we saw it as a bonus.

Special mention must go to Lowri and Gerallt, the owners of the site. Although Lowri was the main point of contact we also met Gerallt on a number of occasions and they both proved to be friendly, helpful people who were particularly reassuring when we had a few minor issues with our car and caravan.

In fact, nothing was too much trouble for either of them and both went out of their way to help us.

Right from the outset, Lowri responded quickly to my messages and on the odd occasion she was understandably unable to reply straight away due to her other commitments she apologised, (unnecessarily in my opinion). Her knowledgeable answers to my questions were also much appreciated.

For example, when we expressed what turned out to be unwarranted concerns about towing the caravan down some of the narrow country lanes in the vicinity of the site, Lowri suggested an alternative route via B roads and then kindly sent us the corresponding directions.

Lowri was there to greet us when we arrived and, after giving us an information leaflet, she left us to choose a pitch and set up. She and Gerallt turned up a little while later to check on us and when we appeared to have an issue connecting to the mains, they delayed a trip out with their children to help us troubleshoot the problem. Gerallt also loaned us a mains cable which we kept for the duration of our stay and then recommended a local caravan engineer in case of any further problems. Similarly, Lowri suggested a garage which could replace our tyre when we suffered a puncture a week later.

Lowri also checked in on us at various intervals throughout our stay to ensure all was OK and actively requested feedback from us, keen to understand if we had any suggestions as to how they might improve the site and the service they provide. From our perspective we had none.

Suffice to say, we had a fabulous time and would thoroughly recommend Ffridd Uchaf to anyone looking for a peaceful site in a gorgeous location which is well placed to explore this stunning part of the country.

Well done Lowri and Gerallt - you're doing a fantastic job. Thank you for helping to make our holiday extra special.

Liked Quiet site with 5 level and spacious pitches. All with water and EHU on pitch. WiFi connection fairly good - just a couple of times where it dropped out). Shower/toilet unit spotless on arrival (sadly not always left that way by other campers 😡).
Good waste facilities (including drive over grey waste drain). Warm welcome and very reasonably priced (paid a lot more at other sites this week with no EHU). Will definitely stay again if in the area.

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch (members only)

Liked A peaceful over night stop here with a lovely welcome from Lowri. I would highly recommend this CL for a longer stay. Pitches are level and there is a nice walk up to a superb viewpoint. It’s about 10 miles from Llandudno, mostly on country lanes that are quiet and are ok for medium size motorhomes.

Local attractions

Looked at Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park from the viewpoint and fancy a closer look? There are loads of activities to try out while you’re there – perhaps taking walks from Llanrwst (15 minutes' drive) or Betws-y-Coed (25 minutes), climbing Yr Wyddfa/Snowdon (45 minutes) or trying out the adrenaline activities of Zip World Betws-y-Coed (20 minutes). For less adventurous days out, try the likes of Conwy Water Gardens (20 minutes), which has wildlife trails and coarse fishing, or the 80 acres of exotic planting at Bodnant Garden - National Trust (10 minutes). A trip to the seaside is also a good option – perhaps to Llandudno (25 minutes), stopping at the Welsh Mountain Zoo (15 minutes) on the way. Other days out might take you to Conwy (20 minutes) to see the castle and walk the walls, or over to Anglesey (40 minutes) for a whole list of gorgeous beaches and other attractions.
