  • Attractive site on the banks of the River Wye, on the edge of Rhayader
  • Red Kite Feeding Station five minutes' drive; Elan Valley 10 minutes
  • Member price shown; non-members select £7.50/night extra
A peaceful atmosphere and wonderful river and mountain views await for guests at Wyeside Camping and Caravanning Club Site – and with the added bonus of easy A-road access and convenient town facilities close by. This lovely mid Wales location makes an excellent base for walkers, wildlife watchers and those who just want a bit of quiet time in the open air. As the name suggests, it’s on the banks of the River Wye, with gorgeous green hilly landscapes forming the rest of the backdrop. It’s all very relaxing – but not remote, as the site is accessed from the A470 and on the edge of the market town of Rhayader. That location means you’ll be able to sit by the river and enjoy some peace and quiet if you like, or take the 10-minute stroll into town for an evening at one of its pubs or restaurants. It’s also easy to pick up supplies at the shops for your barbecue dinners or picnic lunches while out walking (perhaps at the Elan Valley reservoirs, 10 minutes’ drive away or walkable in a couple of hours). This site is managed by the Camping and Caravanning Club, and open to both members and non-members; a discounted rate is available for members, so you’ll just need to make sure you select the correct membership option with your booking. As you’d expect from a Club site, there are good-quality facilities here, including a launderette, a shop, wifi, a chemical disposal point and two toilet/shower blocks. You’ll also be able to use the tennis courts and football pitches at the park next door.

Local attractions

Rhayader is a lovely place to take a wander, with a riverside path and a pleasing number of pubs to try out. Just to the south of the town is the Red Kite Feeding Station (five minutes’ drive), where you can watch the daily feeding sessions from the open field or a bird hide. For more town wanders, head to Llandrindod Wells (15 minutes) or Builth Wells (20 minutes), both full of independent shops and places to eat. Llandrindod Wells is also home to the National Cycle Museum and Radnorshire Museum. Of course, it’s the stunning scenery that brings most visitors to this area, so you’ll want to plan a few walks or bike rides while you’re here – perhaps starting at the reservoirs of the Elan Valley (10 minutes) before moving on to Gilfach Nature Reserve (10 minutes) or Clywedog Reservoir (half an hour).
