  • Family-friendly site on the edge of Eryri National Park
  • Machynlleth five minutes’ drive; Aberystwyth 25 minutes
  • Fishing pond; playground; a five-minute walk from Dyfi Wildlife Centre
With Eryri National Park (Snowdonia) right on its doorstep and the beaches of Cardigan Bay less than half an hour’s drive away, Morben Isaf Caravan Park ought to appeal to those who can never quite make up their mind between hiking holidays and seaside breaks. But the real ace up Morben Isaf’s sleeve is its proximity (a mere five-minute walk) to the Dyfi Wildlife Centre – Cors Dyfi, where you can admire nesting ospreys, as well as a family of beavers. If even that five-minute walk sounds like too much effort, rejoice, for there is a nature reserve inside the park, and you might be able to spot raptors hovering in mid-air from the bird hide. Morben Isaf is five minutes’ drive from the market town of Machynlleth. In addition to pitches with far-reaching views of the Welsh countryside, it has a well-maintained toilet/shower block (including a wetroom for guests with mobility issues), a launderette and a communal fridge freezer. While the kids spend time in the playground (plus an area for ball games, complete with a hoop), the adults can find their moment of Zen, rod in hand, on the banks of the fishing pond. If you're a keen mountain biker, Coed y Brenin (50 minutes) has trails suitable for all levels; and if you are an expert MTB-er, you might want to have a go at the hair-raising tracks at Dyfi Bike Park (10 minutes). The bike-wash facility on site ought to get rid of every speck of dirt on your mudguards.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch

Liked Friendly welcome. Owner parked my van as I took out a sign trying to reverse!
Walking distance to Dyfi Osprey Centre.
On a busy fast road unfortunately. Could cross over to a footpath through the woods To reach cycle path you have to cycle on the road towards Machynlleth 1 mile.
My pitch felt a bit exposed, only one in a small camper amongst tourers, that appear to regulars. It was fine, site quiet & friendly.

Disliked Pitch noisy as near road, can’t be helped. Might be useful to have a small shop for milk, bread etc.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass touring pitch (large)

Liked Everything! Lovely peaceful surroundings. Excellent facilities block with lovely hot water. Laundrette which was very reasonably priced, a gym, nice outdoor play park and games area all areas were very well kept. Fishing lake and a bird hide which was actually a lot of fun even my 12 year old son really enjoyed being quiet and spotting the different birds and wildlife which was an excellent way to enjoy some technology free time. The Dyfi wildlife centre is definitely worthy of a visit and just a very short stroll away with an excellent cafe. Plenty of dog walking areas around the site. Bus stop outside of site. Perfect site for a relaxing break.

Disliked Having to go home.

Fully-serviced hardstanding and grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked Great little find , owners lovely but not pushy or intrusive, leaves you to relax and unwind . Plenty to do on site with fishing pond and bird watching shelter.
Great pubs within ten minutes drive . And added bonus of jets flying very low overhead. Site was also immaculate with not a blade of grass out of place . Lovely warm and clean shower block.

Disliked Couldn't fault it. Everything we wanted in a campsite

Local attractions

After the ospreys of Dyfi Wildlife Centre, get to know the waders and ducks at RSPB Ynys-hir (10 minutes’ drive). With habitats ranging from woodlands and grasslands to saltmarshes and reedbeds, this vast reserve is also home to otters and lizards. Ynys-hir runs a series of activities, including a dawn chorus event and a bug safari. King Arthur’s Labyrinth (15 minutes) spreads underground just outside the town of Corris. A hooded boatman welcomes you on his vessel and takes you sailing on a subterranean river. During this cruise, you learn about Welsh legends featuring dragons (of course…), giants and other mythical creatures. With two beaches, Aberystwyth (25 minutes) is a popular destination in the summer months. When you’re all swum or body-boarded out, take the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway to the top of Constitution Hill for expansive views and a game of miniature golf.
