  • Small family-friendly site in the foothills of the Brecon Beacons
  • Just off the A470, a 10-minute drive from Brecon
  • Peaceful setting next to woodland with a small stream running through
Stand by for action… Rhydywernen Farm Camping Site’s fab family farm location is in a most handy spot for getting out into the Brecon Beacons National Park for days of hiking, mountain biking, horse riding, canoeing, gorge walking and pretty much any other activity you’re up for in this part of Powys. And then, stand by for chilling out… for this is a most peaceful location, with spacious pitches backing onto woodland and a small river that’s prime territory for such classic country pursuits as skimming stones and poking about with little fishing nets in search of minnows. Away from the water's edge guests are encouraged to meet the site's miniature donkeys, helping to feed them and put them to bed in the evenings. Barbecues with a backdrop of the Brecon Beacons are of course a fine way to sort dinner on site (firepits are available to hire, with firewood to buy). If the weather’s not up to it (or you’re just in the mood to let someone else do all the work), there are plenty of pubs, cafés and restaurants up the road in Brecon. Work up an appetite for your eats with an hour-long stroll along quiet country paths, or get in the car for the easy 10-minute journey to town along the A470 (also a handy road for getting to other corners of the national park or heading across country to the north or south). Please note this is a family-friendly site: no open fires, no bad language and no loud music after 10.30pm please. Facilities on site include toilets, a washing-up area and hot showers (just take note that during popular times, the water pressure may be a little lower than usual).

What customers say

A beautiful, tranquil farm campsite with friendly owners & great facilities (new, clean ablutions). Enjoy the riverside setting, feeding farm animals, and easy access to Brecon & Beacons for hiking. Spacious pitches. Occasional road noise & need for more showers at peak times noted.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Nice, friendly, peaceful campsite in a really great location. The kids love seeing the farm machinery and animals, and playing in the stream that runs through the campsite. Owners are very friendly, but leave you to enjoy your stay. Facilities are clean. Stayed there at least 4 times already, and will most likely be back again.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We all had such a wonderful time at Rhydywernen Farm, the hosts were fantastic! Always on site for any needs. The facilities were great, kitchen area with fridges, electricity and hot water. The shower and toilet areas kept clean. There was everything else you could need or want.
It was our first big camping trip at a family and it didn't disappoint! We would definitely go back to enjoy a stay.
Thank you!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Quiet farm site until 5.30am
Good place to watching shooting stars
Fire pits provided.
Can use fridge, freezer, kettle charging points

Disliked 2 toilets for 30+ pitches and only 4 showers, showers almost no pressure unless first in day , quite a tired site.
No hairdryers

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Great location for walks to Pen y Fan, Fan y big etc, Brecon the Usk and canal. You can access quiet lanes directly to the south of the site via a footbridge over the stream, which was lovely for a dip in hot weather.
Owners are very friendly and make regular patrols of the site to check that all is well.
Easy to drive to with the caravan - no narrow lanes.
Site was very quiet every night by 11.00 despite being full and we always slept well.
Excellent free Wi-Fi.
Despite the niggles below, the site was very good value.

Disliked There aren’t enough loos to cope with a full site and myself and other campers were having to queue in the morning. It would probably be OK when the site is not full.
Pitches are not numbered or well defined. We came back from a day out and a family had pitched a caravan, tent and car with roof tent on the pitch next to us - so close that we couldn’t open our window! We politely asked them if they could move the closest unit which thankfully they did, but it would be better if there was more organisation in my view.
There is no grey or black waste point in the caravan field - the only place we could find was the camping field so it was a bit more of a trek than usual. The black waste disposal drain was neat but there was no hose available to rinse it down - just a tap a couple of meters away. The tap in the touring field is high off the ground and had no hose attached so do bring your own if you want to fill a large water container or aqua roll.
The touring field would benefit from having the small central grass area free for kids to play, rather than having extra units and cars squeezed on.
Sorry for all the minor gripes - we had a lovely stay but these are little things that could be improved.

Local attractions

So much activity awaits in the Brecon Beacons National Park: pick a gentle hike around woods and waterfalls if you want, or get stuck in to scaling Pen y Fan (25 minutes’ drive away and southern Britain’s highest mountain). Horse riders can saddle up at the stables 10 minutes away, while those who like to zoom around on mountain bikes can get some speed up at BikePark Wales (25 minutes). The outdoorsy antics don’t end there – Brecon’s something of a hub for such things, and activity centres around the town can sort you with rafting, canoeing, high ropes courses and gorge scrambling. All sound a bit too exhausting? Take a more leisurely ride on the Brecon Mountain Railway (25 minutes) before heading home via the Penderyn whisky distillery (20 minutes). Break out of the Beacons for trips to some of the area’s other attractions: Llandovery Castle is half an hour away, as is the book-loving town of Hay-on-Wye. A little further north but worth a trip are the lakes of the Elan valley and the red kite feeding station in Rhyader; both are around an hour’s drive away.
