General

  • 50-acre site in the grounds of a Georgian mansion
  • Spectacular views towards the Vendlaw hills
  • Bar and restaurant, TV room and food shop

Peeps – and pooches – you should come to Peebles. As it's a sure bet you'll find something to feast your peepholes on round these parts, whether that’s the 50 miles of mountain bike trails at Glentress Forest, piles of lovely wares in town – Peebles was named Top Independent Retailing Town in Scotland – or the artsy attractions and several festivals.

Nearby River Tweed is internationally famous for salmon fishing too: the Peebles town motto and crest even has three salmon a-leaping up the water. All in all, rather fab.

Right on the edge of Peebles to also feast your eyes on is Rosetta Holiday Park too, an attentively manicured family and dog-friendly site set over 50 acres with spectacular views towards the Vendlaw Hills.

The park is in grounds surrounding a Georgian mansion and includes an old stable block converted into the Hayloft Bar which dishes up home-cooked meals at weekends and high season; ask at reception for current opening times. There's also free evening entertainment including karaoke at weekends, and the stables building also has a TV room with a few games to keep the family occupied.

Outdoors, there’s a playground for the kids to swing, slide and climb around; additional facilities include a food shop, a launderette and a handy café in the bar area.

(Please note that food is no longer served from the end of September and that the bar is closed on weekdays. Entertainment is minimal outside high season.)

Please note that after 29/09 the Hayloft bar and restaurant is open on weekends only and does not serve food. The entertainment programme after this time is also minimal.

Very nice quiet site. Plenty of space for caravans and motorhomes. Many green grass areas giving the impression of a spacious situation. Well established static caravan areas with well presented vans. Toilet and shower buildings were all spotless and well kept. Altogether a very enjoyable site that can be used to tour the area. The site is actually in Peebles not in the outskirts.

Beautiful green and lush park with fantastic views. Only a short walk into Peebles town. Lovely friendly welcome when arrived and we were given a map of the park. Lovely and quiet from the second night of our stay as most people had left on the Sunday which was great.

    Disliked:

The ladies toilets didn't seem to be checked very often. 2 of the soap dispensers were empty upon arriving at lunchtime and remained that way until the following day and there were strewn pieces of toilet paper on the floor that also did not get removed until the next day.
The site was very busy when we arrived, due to every pitch being occupied and each one having one or more cars, it was a little to close for comfort, there was not much room for personal space as the pitches are so close together and also resulted in it being quiet noisy however most people left on Sunday and it was lovely and peaceful for the rest of our stay.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review.

We would like to address some of your issues. Firstly the toilet blocks are cleaned and checked throughout the day. And issues are remedied as soon as spotted or reported. We cannot control the amount of children and adults who use the facilities and leave them a mess. They were not left unchecked until the next day and are done again at night,as the bar closes.
Our pitches are fairly large but due to the amount of people who turn up with more than one car and park on the grass besides the tents could seem to close. Everyone is offered alternative pitches when we are busy but we were not busy last weekend. Also there was no reports of noise and the warden does plenty of walk rounds.

I liked this campsite a lot, clean quiet location, nice spacious tent pitches, car next to your tent, fantastic entertainment, live music and good pool table . Clean toilets and showers, mirrors were a nice bonus too,all close to pitches. The fact that there were hardly any midges was a total winner for me. Will definitely recommend this campsite to friends.

Local attractions

One of the many highlights of the Scottish Borders is that, while the region is rightly popular with savvy holidaymakers, it remains off the mass tourist track so you can gleefully pursue your pastimes without areas becoming overcrowded.

Fishing is one of the most popular pursuits in the area is because of Peebles’s proximity to the River Tweed, on the top scale of salmon fishing rivers in the world. Go out on your own with your rod license or bag a trip/course from one of the many local angling centres nearby; the Tweed and its tributaries yield wild trout and grayling too. Elsewhere in the area, anglers have acres of lochs for coarse fishing and the Berwickshire coast nearby for sea angling – and views – off Eyemouth, Burmouth and St Abbs.

The mountain bike trails of Glentress Forest three miles away is another big draw for active visitors – the Tweed Bike Festival is held here in May and June and Glentress/Innerleithen are part of the world famous 7stanes mountain biking trails. The award-winning centre at Glentress has trails of all grades and a most modern visitor centre with bike wash, bike hire and a bike shop.

The Tweed Love Bike Festival is held at Peebles in early summer, but if you miss it/aren’t a mountain biker, several other festivals cover several other tastes such as arts, jazz, food (nom), Highlands Games, the Rugby Sevens and the traditional week-long Beltane Festival.

Dramatic highlights like shows at the Eastgate can be had at any time of the year, as can sampling fresh local produce in the town’s hotels and restaurants (nom again), park and river walks by the Tweed and the prerequisite till-ringing at the Old Town and School Brae.

As well as Peebles, the Borders has plenty of other characterful towns to seek out such as Selkirk, Jedburgh, Galashiels and the Borders’s biggest town Hawick; those looking for even brighter lights can make their way to Edinburgh, just 20 miles away.

Must see

  • Royal Scottish Academy (31.8 kilometres)
  • Edinburgh Zoo (31.8 kilometres)
  • National Museum of Scotland (32.0 kilometres)
