  • Peaceful site 10 minutes’ drive from Ballindalloch on Glenlivet Estate
  • Glenlivet Distillery and Cairngorms National Park five minutes’ drive
  • No-fuss grass pitches with showers; Thai café five minutes’ drive
With a handy (and jolly pretty) location on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park, Glenlivet Campsite sits behind the Public Hall on Glenlivet Estate. This simple site is surrounded by hills, trees and open Highlands skies and definitely has that peaceful 'in the middle of nowhere' vibe. Simple facilities include separate male and female shower and toilet facilities in the hall, with secure access 24 hours a day, a wifi signal and chemical waste disposal. Dogs are welcome to accompany you, but please keep them under control for the benefit of other guests. When you need a restock of supplies, head for the local convenience store in Ballindalloch (10 minutes’ drive), where there’s also a petrol station and post office, while the nearest restaurant/takeaway (five minutes) serves delicious Thai food. And if you’re a whisky lover, you’ll certainly never be short of something to do, as there are several distilleries within 10 minutes by car. If you happen to be visiting in August, perhaps you'd also like to attend the site's annual 'tea in the park' event. This lasts for a couple of weeks at the beginning of August and takes place in the Glenlivet Public Hall next door.

Liked: Basic camping area behind the village hall. Nice flat field to camp on. Sheltered as large trees and hills on 3 sides. Just a few midges. Just me and 1 camper van on a saturdy night.
Basic facilities, cold fresh water tap, couple of showers and a loo.
Chemical toiley disposal for caravan/capervan

Disliked: Could do with more toilets if busy there would be alot of waiting.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Very clean, well kept facilities, reasonably priced and very quiet when we stayed. Enjoyed the flexibility of no fixed arrival and departure time which was helpful as we had a long days walk to do. The surrounding area of Glen Livet is super and the distillery is only 10 minutes walk away.

Disliked: Nothing

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: We camped in our motorhome for two nights there. It is a very nice, quiet and peaceful campsite. You get toilets and shower rooms separately for ladies and gents that are kept spotless! As soon as you book your stay, you'll get the access code for it. Very important, you will need 20p's to use the shower!
There are spaces for tents and caravans on grass. You have rubbish bins and chemical waste disposal.
Clean water is very clear and tasty.
There are many pathway routes to walk around. Nature was breathtaking around us!
We spent three dreaming days at Glenlivet campsite.

Disliked: WiFi signal was poor but I was told that is in work process 🤞

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Walking distance from. Glenlivet distillery.
Easy to find.
No pitches so just choose anywhere.
Simple.
Public Hall field, good to be contributing to a local amenity.

Disliked: Price. At £25 for a night we expected a higher standard of facilities. We have stayed at campsites like this before and loved them, just at a cheaper price!
No washing up station.
Poor showers with no locks on doors.
Door to men's toilets got stuck shut and no handle on the door bolt so unable to lock.
No hot water in taps.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Very quiet we were the only guests! Lovely spot! Handy fit the incredible mountain biking! And amazing value.

Disliked: Probably not great if it’s busy as only 1 shower worked and the bathrooms could have been better marked we thought we were locked out but the showers etc are at the back of the hall!

Local attractions

So, whisky drinkers, you have the choice of several distilleries to tour. Start at The Glenlivet (five minutes’ drive), famed for its single malt, and then head for Ballindalloch (10 minutes) for more touring and tasting. Other options for aficionados of the “water of life” include Aberlour (20 minutes) and The Cairn Distillery (half an hour). If you’d rather get your hiking boots on, the long-distance Speyside Way passes the site, and there are lots of walking routes on Glenlivet Estate (direct access); please see the visitor information at the front of the Public Hall. The estate also offers up a number of mountain bike tracks with cross country and free ride trails. For more gentle pursuits, there is a golf course at Ballindalloch Castle and Gardens, where fishing is offered in season. The Cairngorms National Park (five minutes) also has its share of outdoor activities, from climbing to gorge walking, and it’s also the foremost Dark Skies Park in Scotland; on clear nights you won’t even need binoculars to pick out the planets and constellations glittering in the inky-black heavens.
