  • Quiet site five miles from Edinburgh Airport
  • Shopping locally at Livingston Designer Outlet
  • Next to a country park and the Union Canal
East Calder is calling – and how easily accessible it all is. The county's Linwater Caravan Park is within a five-mile drive of Edinburgh Airport (nip up for the weekend, perhaps?) and is next to the trunk roads of the M8 and M9 – thus making it straightforward to stop over here on your way to and fro north or south. But you'd also be well placed to stay a bit longer. Linwater's in a countryside location, right next to Almondell and Calderwood Country Park and the Union Canal (for tiptop towpath strolls) and is also a short drive from the Pentland Hills Regional Park. The Edinburgh International Climbing Arena is only a mile away. All at Linwater is ably run by Katie and Alaistair, who've added a toilet block including a disabled loo, showers, a dishwashing area, laundry facilities and waste disposal for tourers and motorhomes.

What customers say

Linwater Caravan Park gets thumbs up for spot-on cleanliness, top-notch kitchen and showers, and loads of space for your rig. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Great spot for hopping onto public transport to Edinburgh. Mostly chilled vibes, though a bit of plane or road noise here and there. Definitely recommended for the quality and what you get for your buck.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked This campsite is beautifully maintained - the grass and hedges were perfectly neat, the toilets and showers were immaculately clean throughout our stay (3 nights), there is a kitchen area (also spotless) with everything you could possibly need, from washing up supplies to books, DVDs, spare wellie boots, board games and even a Nintendo Wii! There were washing machines and dryers to use for a small charge and a shop on site. The staff were so friendly and accommodating!

Disliked This is a very very minor dislike (not really an issue at all but worth mentioning) - the site is fairly close to the airport so you can hear the planes going over every 15 mins or so. Didn’t bother us personally!

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Beautiful walks through the woods and along the tow path next to canal. Very clean site with EHU and fresh water (bring your own hose) next to site. Well stocked shop with all the basics. Toilets spotless. Didn’t use washing facilities but they looked clean and also had cooking facilities. Only met 1 member of staff in reception but she was very helpful. Definately recommend and would use again for a short break.

Liked Staff are so welcoming and friendly, the site was spotless all with own water supply,

Staff even phoned me while I was out informing me my awning had blown down, toilets and showers should win awards they are spotless.

Under 15 mins drive to airport and park and ride where the trams to Edinburgh run every 7 minutes,

Local attractions

Linwater Caravan Park's locale means you're well set for both countryside and city days, or to break up a journey on your way north or south. Around the area, a mile away in a disused quarry is the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena, with the biggest indoor climbing wall in the world (well worth tackling for the boasting rights gained for afterwards, one might suggest). The towpath walks of the Union Canal are nearby and the shows and exhibitions of the Royal Highland Showground are within four miles. You can also easily drive to the Kelpies, the biggest horsey structures on the planet, and to the Falkirk Wheel, the boat lift connecting the Union and the Forth and Clyde canals.
