  • Quiet site five miles from Edinburgh Airport
  • Shopping locally at Livingston Designer Outlet
  • Next to a country park and the Union Canal
East Calder is calling – and how easily accessible it all is. The county's Linwater Caravan Park is within a five-mile drive of Edinburgh Airport (nip up for the weekend, perhaps?) and is next to the trunk roads of the M8 and M9 – thus making it straightforward to stop over here on your way to and fro north or south. But you'd also be well placed to stay a bit longer. Linwater's in a countryside location, right next to Almondell and Calderwood Country Park and the Union Canal (for tiptop towpath strolls) and is also a short drive from the Pentland Hills Regional Park. The Edinburgh International Climbing Arena is only a mile away. All at Linwater is ably run by Katie and Alaistair, who've added a toilet block including a disabled loo, showers, a dishwashing area, laundry facilities and waste disposal for tourers and motorhomes.

What customers say

Linwater Caravan Park gets thumbs up for spot-on cleanliness, top-notch kitchen and showers, and loads of space for your rig. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Great spot for hopping onto public transport to Edinburgh. Mostly chilled vibes, though a bit of plane or road noise here and there. Definitely recommended for the quality and what you get for your buck.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Very nice campsite, I wanted to visit Edinburgh but in the end I stayed here and took the walks along the river, to the union canal and surroundings. Facilities are super, showers especially. And a nice touch with the small store attached, so I has not to drive when I was running out of bread…

Electric grass pitch

Liked Location, space of each pitch - plenty of room for a family tent and a car, cleanliness of the site in general. The staff are excellent, relaxed and welcoming. Very efficient when dealing with customers - had my welcome pack ready along with a pile of others, pitch already allocated (oddly this was the same as my previous visit and hopefully my next visit). Drinking water and electric at the pitch was so helpful.

Although I didn't use the TV room or the kids play park - too old for the latter, too tired to concentrate on the former, they were available and seemed to be well kept.

Close enough to Edinburgh to find your way without a satnav. I do recommend using the park and ride at Islington as it's cheap, gives access to the city and beyond, and the fares are capped for both trams and buses linked together making transport easy and relaxing.

Disliked My only dislike was leaving but life beckons until next time.

Electric grass pitch

Liked We liked everything about the site. The toilets and showers were amazing and the hot water abundant. We found the site to be very clean and tidy, and the pitches to a very high standard. We spent a few nights here as a base for our Edinburgh trip. The Tram park and ride being only 4 miles away made it a no brainer when choosing this site. We will definitely be back here on our next trip to Scotland.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Large bathroom facilities with multiple shower/changing cubicles, toilet cubicles and x2 standalone vanity cubicles. Also has indoor kitchen/cooking facilities and a small shop in reception.
The site is clean and well maintained throughout, both indoors and out. There is also plenty of wildlife around including wild rabbits, which was absolutely wonderful to wake up to!
EHU is well provided and plenty of pitches, grass and/or gravel, and also has static vans and spaces for tents.
Good check-in process with clear instructions and guidance, handy leaflets given after check in with barrier code, map and local tourist sights including how to get into Edinburgh easily!

Disliked Showers are push-buttons with short timers, which can be a bit bothersome whilst trying to shower.
Position is slightly let-down by being so near to EDI airport, but this can’t really be addressed!

Local attractions

Linwater Caravan Park's locale means you're well set for both countryside and city days, or to break up a journey on your way north or south. Around the area, a mile away in a disused quarry is the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena, with the biggest indoor climbing wall in the world (well worth tackling for the boasting rights gained for afterwards, one might suggest). The towpath walks of the Union Canal are nearby and the shows and exhibitions of the Royal Highland Showground are within four miles. You can also easily drive to the Kelpies, the biggest horsey structures on the planet, and to the Falkirk Wheel, the boat lift connecting the Union and the Forth and Clyde canals.
