  • Rural adults-only site by a river half an hour's drive from the coast
  • A five-minute drive from Dalscone Farm Fun; 10 minutes from Dumfries
  • Games room with a pool table; awnings provided; shop nearby
If you’re after a relaxing, well-equipped spot to park up for just the night or you are looking to stick around and explore stunning Dumfries and Galloway, you’ve hit upon the right spot. Newbridge Country Park is a modern, adults-only holiday park that handily suits both purposes, being half an hour’s drive from the M74 (for journeys to the Highlands or south to the Lakes) and about the same distance from beaches and historic castles. Set in several acres of countryside, the holiday park is only just off the A76, so there's no need to navigate country lanes or side roads to get there. It has spectacular views over the hills of Galloway Forest Park (half an hour’s drive), where you can soon be out exploring on foot or by bike. Anglers can cast for brown trout at Alderneuk Fishery or fly fish for salmon (in season) on the River Nith (both 15 minutes), and there are a couple of golf courses within 15 minutes’ drive too. The lively town of Dumfries (10 minutes) is a surefire bet for picking up food or any other bits and bobs. If you’re having a break from the stove, take your pick of cosy pubs, organic cafés and restaurants serving local Scottish produce while you’re there. There's another shop five minutes' walk from the site. Back at base camp, all the pitches are neatly landscaped, and spotless facilities on the site include a shower block with wet rooms and a laundry room, plus chemical disposal. There is also a games room with a pool table, football table and comfortable seating.

What customers say

Immaculate, well-kept site with friendly staff. Peaceful with great facilities like a games room & spacious pitches. Loved the dog field with river access & convenient Dumfries location. Some suggest more toilets/showers for peak times, & shower placement in games room felt a bit odd. High quality & value, highly recommended.

Electric gravel pitch

Liked Clean quite very well organised.
Phil was very friendly mentioned as the site was not that busy there was no need to stick to the 11 am checkout time. That was very thoughtful and reflected the general friendliness of the site.

Electric gravel pitch

Liked The whole site was so clean and well organised. Has everything you need and more. Peaceful with a great location for nipping into Dumfries great for dogs too with a little river walk off the site.

Disliked Can't call this a dislike but an extra toilet and shower maybe block wouldn't go a miss. But honestly didn't dampen our stay!! Thought hard for a dislike.

Electric gravel pitch

Liked Lovely quiet site which looked to be new or newly refurbished. Nice countryside views and only a ten minute drive into Dumfries. Beautifully kept grounds.

Disliked Only one shower and two loos close to the touring pitches, although more were sited near Reception.

Electric gravel pitch

Liked Tidy site, quiet and well looked after. Good sized field for dog walking. Free Starlink WiFi, though this does occasionally cut out.

Disliked Definitely needs more than two toilets and one shower near the pitches. There are an additional two near reception but it’s a fairly long walk especially in bad weather.

Could do with some additional signage for drinking water as it’s not obvious - I saw a few people filling their aquaroll from the tap next to the chemical disposal point - health hazard!

Games room needs some attention as the pool table is on the verge of collapse!

Local attractions

Dumfries (10 minutes’ drive) was the birthplace of Robbie Burns in 1759; see displays on the life of Scotland’s favourite poet, as well as portraits and period rooms, at the Robert Burns House, or read more about his life and times at the Robert Burns Centre, an 18th-century watermill sitting on the banks of the River Nith. There’s more on his backstory at Robert Burns Ellisland Farm (five minutes), a sprawling homestead where he once farmed. Spectacular Drumlanrig Castle and Gardens (20 minutes) makes a great day out too, with its stellar art collection and woodland walks. For more Scottish heritage, stop by the moated remains of medieval Caerlaverock Castle (25 minutes), or have a nose around the impressive cloisters of 13th-century Sweetheart Abbey (20 minutes) in New Abbey. If you prefer to do your exploring on foot, amble up to the 60-foot waterfall in Grey Mare’s Tail Nature Reserve (50 minutes), or pack a picnic and hike to Loch Trool and Bruce’s Stone – commemorating Robert the Bruce’s victory over the English in 1307 – in Galloway Forest Park (half an hour).
