What customers say
Balkenna: small, friendly site with sea views, clean facilities & helpful staff. Tearoom's a hit! Main drawback: A77 road noise (esp. small field). Minor points: washing-up area & loo roll. Good value, convenient stopover.

Lovely site with beautiful views and a fabulous tea room.
Non-electric grass touring pitch
Liked Lovely view across the sea to Ailsa Craig. The Balkenna Tea Room is a popular little place with fabulous homemade cakes and a really good menu serving food pretty much all day. A busy place that we called in a couple of times on our 2 night stay.
The homemade scones were delicious 😋
The staff were all very friendly and even though we’d booked a non-electric pitch (it was all that was available on Pitch Up at the time of booking), the very friendly lady who welcomed us said that we could move to a pitch with electric.
The lady showed us around the whole site which I thought was lovely. We’ve rarely had a tour anywhere before and she spoke with real pride about her place of work 🥰
We loved the short walk to the beach despite another reviewer having difficulty crossing the road with her dogs. We walked with our 2 dogs up the road to where the pavement ends then crossed the road and down the track (through 2 gates closed not locked) to the vast beach where our dogs, and we, enjoyed the place to ourselves each time we visited.
We loved the improvements the owner is making to the site (recently installed facilities for showering/dish wash/doggy shower), and the dog friendly tea room.
The pitches are fairly level and of good size. We got our 7.25m motorhome into pitch 10 comfortably.
We had a very enjoyable stay and will call again when we’re in Scotland.
Disliked Couldn’t find a bin for recycling 🫣 it may have been there but it wasn’t apparent.
The road is very busy so if you’re a light sleeper earplugs might be handy. It was VERY windy the 2 nights we stayed so that helped to detract from the noisy road, but in the sunshine of the day the views out to sea and the lovely coastal setting far outweigh any negatives.

Friendly welcome to this nice little site.
Electric grass touring pitch
Liked Nice little site about 15 pitches, some a little unlevel, a warm welcome in and friendly helpful staff. A bonus the site has a cafe/tea shop which serves great food.
A tiny washing up area basic but functional with black waste empty too.
Bathrooms were good and functional but all areas could do with good clean.
Disliked It is on a busy road but we didn’t find it too bad, this may be as it was a weekend so maybe not as busy as a working day.
I wrap would stay again.

Back again for another great visit, rain…
Electric grass touring pitch
Liked Back again for another great visit, rain or shine Balkenna is a little gem of a site and the tearoom just tops it off, great food and great staff, always a friendly smile and welcoming atmosphere.
Basic but clean facilities, what more can you ask for when touring, only 10 minutes away from Girvan for local shops, the site is close to the A77 so if the noise bothers you just pack a set of ear plugs, stunning views along the ayshire coast with some great local walks.
Disliked Nothing to dislike about Balkenna,we`ll be back again very soon.

Friendly small campsite that is good value for money.
Non-electric grass tent pitch
Liked Lovely small no frills campsite.
Smashing showers and loo’s.
Very friendly young lady checked me in, she told me I could basically pitch my tent anywhere in the two fields.
Friendly grass cutting lad was polite; he came and asked me at 8am on Saturday morning would I mind if he cut the grass around me, I had no problem with this.
Only 10 minute drive to Girvan beach.
Fabulous views of the Ailsa Craig / Paddy’s milestone.
Tea room.
Great value for money. I would return.
Disliked The very busy road might put some campers off, I live in Paisley right next to Glasgow Airport so noise doesn’t really bother me.
The beach that is accessible from the campsite was just to dangerous to access, the pavement is very small and the road is just to busy to risk it with my three dogs.
If you don’t want to risk the walk to the beach then there isn’t a lot of areas to walk your dogs.
A small dog waste bin would be useful.

I would definitely ask for a site nearer the bathroom facilities.
Electric grass tent pitch
Liked We loved the friendliness of the place. Staff where brilliant the tearooms food was hearty and desserts where the best I’d ever had. Definitely will be back. The facilities where clean and sites grand . My daughter and I hadn’t camped in 40 years . But we are definitely going to change that come the spring and summer .thank you to. the ladies in the tearoom they are really lovely and took pity on us with the crappiest weather . Best items we brought with us were the electric cable ,kettle and milk .
Disliked The road well A77 next time earplugs will be a priority. But that’s not the site problem . The car park could have some extra lighting or maybe some sensor lights that would have been great ( as it was extremely Dark ) my eyesight isn’t the best at night . Worse part was what nobody can control. WEATHER but it didn’t deter us from having the best craic and sight seeing
