  • Quiet off-grid woodland pop-up site in Eglinton Country Park, Ayrshire
  • Ardrossan Ferry Terminal and Royal Troon Golf Club 15 minutes’ drive
  • Café ten minutes’ walk; shops and restaurants 10 minutes’ drive
When it’s wild camping you’re after – proper wild camping with virtually no facilities – you’ll hit gold dust at Garden Cottage, a pop-up site in Eglinton Country Park, 15 minutes’ drive from Ardrossan in Ayrshire. The grass pitches are tucked into carefully managed woodland, and sheltered by the mature trees for total privacy and seclusion. Loos are 10 minutes’ walk away in the park’s visitor centre, where you can also grab a bite in the café and let the kids have a run about at the play area. Otherwise, this site is completely off grid, so pack torches for getting around after dark, as well as drinking water and a barbecue if you’re going to cook alfresco. There’s a communal campfire surrounded by simple seating made from fallen trees, and essentials shops 10 minutes’ drive away in Kilwinning, where you can divert into cafés and restaurants if you want a change from self-catering. This peaceful spot is run on sustainable lines, and any profit made from the wild camping will be re-invested in the woodland to improve amenities.

What customers say

A peaceful, hidden woodland spot with a communal campfire, loved for its natural charm and tranquil vibe. Owners are super friendly, often tending the fire. Great base for local sights. Basic wild camping, top value. A few found the entrance tricky in the dark and some road noise, but overall a highly recommended, relaxing getaway.

Non-electric hardstanding and grass campervan pitch

Liked Real back to basics camp site, this is my favorite sort of camping under the stars completely off grid, small site, but with lovely spacious pitches, very welcoming owners. Fire going when we arrived which pleased my children and plenty of wood to keep it stocked all night. We really enjoyed the sitting round the fire with other campers listening to stories of other adventures

Disliked nothing

Non-electric hardstanding and grass campervan pitch

Liked Exactly the kind of place I look for when away in the camper.
I often travel solo with the dog and this place felt safe whilst being secluded.
Found it easy enough when I used the proper directions. The owner was there when I arrived so I didn’t need to figure out where I was parking. The fire was already burning and we were all settle with no hassle. Was nice to have a chat with Stuart (I am unsure if I remember the name correctly) whilst sitting at the fire and he was very welcoming to my dog. Had a lovely evening walk through the park before settling at the fire again for a while. Had the best sleep, no disturbances and was lovely to wake up and see I’d missed the rain that fell overnight. I wasn’t rushed to leave so took the dog another walk around the park and had some breakfast in the cafe which is only a short walk away. It’s dog friendly in the conservatory but you can take your dog inside to order your food. I will definitely book again because I know my partner will absolutely love the firepit set up. We need more places like this.

Disliked Nothing because it was exactly as i expected and what i was hoping for.

Non-electric hardstanding and grass campervan pitch

Liked Such a lovely wee site, felt very safe and secluded. It’s local to everything you need but also secluded enough to relax. The fire pit was definitely a highlight for me, was around -8oc when I stayed so the fire pit saved the night!

Stuart also gave me a call to make sure I had found the site ok and was super helpful.

Honestly a fantastic site that I will be back to regularly.

Disliked Nothing at all!
