Lovely walk
Bliss!!

  • Small countryside site overlooking 27 acres of National Trust land
  • A 20-minute drive from Stonehenge and 25 minutes from Salisbury
  • Two pubs within walking distance and barbecues permitted on site
Track down Stonehenge and Salisbury or leap over the country stile onto the 27 acres of National Trust land alongside Honeysuckle Homestead… this remote countryside site is well equipped for a Wiltshire break and pretty splendid location-wise. The location is within the Cranborne Chase National Landscape, and Wiltshire’s your oyster, really: the iconic Stonehenge stone circle is 20 minutes’ drive away and Salisbury Cathedral about 25 minutes. If country pubs are your first calling, there are two of those nearby too (at a 20-minute or a 45-minute walk respectively). Well-fed and watered, you might be itching to get out on one of the many scenic walks in the surrounding countryside. One top pick is the Dinton Park Trail in the National Trust land that the site overlooks. You’ll pass by orchards, farmland, parkland, woodland and a Neo-Grecian house, as well as follow part of the Monarch’s Way. This 625-mile trail was King Charles II’s escape route after he was defeated in the Civil Wars, although you’ll be able to take it on at a much more leisurely pace. Honeysuckle Homestead has a sweet set up all around. It’s well equipped with heated toilets and showers, wifi over the site and a washing-up area (just in case you fancy taking advantage of the fact that barbecues are allowed). There’s a shop in Fovant village, 45 minutes’ walk away, for all your basic bits and pieces.

Electric hardstanding pitch

Liked: Lovely location, very reasonably priced, clean facilities and best host ever. Corina couldn't have done more for us. Extremely friendly and definitely going above and beyond the expected. Asked if I could change my pitch but my ehu lead wasn't long enough for where I wanted so she lent me a longer one. Even drove to me to the local garage (after I spilt a bottle of wine so I could get more 😂). Always checking in to make sure everything was ok. Next to a train track but after the first couple of trains you don't really even notice....much better than constant road traffic. Lovely local walks Will definitely be coming back...

Disliked: Coming home

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: We liked:
Direct access to National Trust parkland and other country foot paths.
Good views of open fields & woods.
Very clean shower and toilets.
Kind & friendly owners.
Dog Friendly.
Very good cost with everything included in price; such as awning and a pet.

Disliked: A single track rail line in a cutting close by may be an issue for some, but did not really spoil our stay.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Lovely, well laid out site. Easy access to all facilities. Friendly owner. Safe. Conveniently located near to many historical sights including Stonehenge.
Next to large dog walking field. Lots of local wildlife to hear and see. Very little light pollution so night sky was stunning.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Views across the fields and towards National Trust property. Lots of wildlife( we saw an owl ,hare)Good walking trails. Child and pet friendly but not a large site so quiet. Good Wi-fi. Electric hook up and large pitch. Good we can park up next to tent. Clean toilet and shower facilities with underfloor heating. Recycling for rubbish.Owners were very friendly and helpful.

Disliked: Not close to shops but we drove so not a major issue. There is a train track that runs directly behind site but didn't hear any trains early mornings or late evenings. Didn't bother us.

Local attractions

So you’ve visited medieval Salisbury (25 minutes’ drive), gazed at the Magna Carta in Salisbury Cathedral and (hopefully) defeated an escape room, but what about Old Sarum (25 minutes)? The ruins are where Salisbury’s first settlers lived and nowadays, visitors can climb up the ramparts, see where the original cathedral once stood and admire the Iron Age hillfort too. Wilton (10 minutes) was the ancient capital of Wessex and well worth a stop for walks along the Wylye river, the markets and Wilton House (15 minutes). Historical sites don’t end just there, though, as further out, there are the 14th-century ruins of Old Wardour Castle (20 minutes) and grand Kingston Lacy (40 minutes), where there are Japanese gardens, play areas, art and antiquities and garden tours. If it’s a safari day you’re after, that’s not as unthinkable as you’d expect in the Wiltshire countryside, because Longleat (half an hour) has a self-driving safari park with a lion and monkey enclosure. You’re more likely to see New Forest ponies roaming around New Forest National Park (40 minutes). Canoeing, cycling, hiking, hiking – all sorts, really – can be tracked down here, but if it’s the coast you’re really after, Bournemouth (55 minutes), Poole (55 minutes) and Lymington (an hour and 10 minutes) are further on.
