  • Family-friendly campsite on the edge of a New Forest village
  • A quarter of an hour from Romsey; 25 minutes from Salisbury
  • A quarter of a mile from a pub and restaurant
Located in the peaceful northern reaches of the New Forest National Park, Tanglewood Field Camping is a very suitable spot for breaks full of woodland walks, bike rides, doggy day trips or visits to Hampshire and Wiltshire's best landmarks. Tanglewood Field Camping's grounds are very spacious and well-maintained, with lush greenery all around and an attractive mix of trees dotted about for shade and shelter. It's generally a simple set-up here, with fresh water and toilets to keep you ticking over. This quiet campsite, which is located on the edge of the village of Nomansland, also has a few surprises up it's sleeve – a fab French restaurant can be reached in about a five-minute walk, par exemple, and there's also a friendly local pub the same distance away for evening drinks or meals out. If you're after more things to do and places to eat, you'll be won't go far wrong in Romsey (15 minutes' drive), an attractive red brick market town, or Salisbury (25 minutes), Wiltshire's only city – although with water meadows and its gorgeous cathedral close, it's one of the area’s more relaxing urban spots.

Local attractions

The New Forest has a wide range of things to keep the whole family happy, from bike rides and walks around its countless footpaths and enclosures to beaches and watersports in seaside spots like Lepe and Calshot (both around 40 minutes' drive). The area's big family-friendly attractions – like Beaulieu's motor museum (30 minutes) and Paultons Park, home of Peppa Pig world (15 minutes) – can be reached easily from Tanglewood Field Camping, as can less well-known spots like Langley Wood National Nature Reserve (10 minutes). Heading north into Wiltshire, there's of course Salisbury's cathedral and museums to explore (25 minutes), but ancient historic sites like Stonehenge (40 minutes) and Avebury (an hour) or kid-pleasers like Longleat Safari Park (an hour) are also doable for the day if you don't mind venturing a little further afield. The local area is also home to a good range of National Trust properties: Mottisfont (20 minutes) is likely to be a hit with fans of riverside walks and 1930s interiors, while Winchester's modest but well-preserved City Mill (30 minutes) and the grand grounds of Hinton Ampner (45 minutes) are also well worth a visit.
