Flittermouse Copse Camping: View from the pond

General

  • Peaceful pop-up site on the outskirts of the Mendip Hills
  • A 15-minute drive from Weston-super-Mare; 25 minutes to Cheddar Gorge
  • Access to The Mendip Way; two country pubs within walking distance

Pop down to the pop-up site at Flittermouse Copse Camping on the edge of the Mendip Hills… the spacious three-acre site is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with quite the sublime views over the Bristol Channel, North Somerset and on a clear day, the Brecon Beacons.

Those green-fingered folk among you may be happy to find that the people at this site are rewilding their sloping three-acre field and have planted hundreds of trees and shrubs. The young woodland, pond and vegetable and flower garden all add to the earthy back-to-nature feel, as do the basic pop-up facilities including water, a sink, composting toilet and cold shower.

Walking is quite the sport here, as there are trails straight from the field, including The Mendip Way above the top edge of the site for a hilly 50-mile hiking route. Other prime routes include the ancient woodland down the hill or Bleadon Hill, a few minutes’ walk away, for more show-off views – this time of the Somerset Levels.

A cosy country pub may very well be the place to go after a day's walking. Handily, from this site, there are two such places within walking distance or a five-minute drive of the site. As for supermarkets, there are several in Weston-super-Mare, 15 minutes’ drive away.

Please note

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

At least one of the party members must be aged 20 or over.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the park are unlit.

Guests must bring their own duvets, pillows, sheets and towels when staying in rental accommodation. You will not be allowed to stay if you do not bring these items.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

We had a really great time, a lot of space to ourselves and an amazing view. The owners were really relaxed and have made a beautiful space. Ideal for people who are after bare neccessities and isolation. The site is off the beaten track without being out of reach of local amenities , a really nice balance.

    Disliked:

The only real downside for us was that in a couple of years when the trees have really started to kick on the place will be even nicer!

I had a lovely stay here - they were friendly and even helped me put my tent up. The site is lovely with stunning views and new trees growing, it was very interesting to hear about. There is a great walk from the back of the site too.
Facilities are basic but clean and good, the cold shower was perfect for me. They have done some levelled pitches - I used one and it was very comfortable.

Great views, bell tent is in excellent condition, compost loo clean with plenty of sawdust, loo roll and hand sanitizer. We were able to have a walk in the sunshine from the site down to the pub in Bleadon. We picked loads of blackberries and we had a fire. The next day we drove to Sand Bay for a walk on the beach. It was lovely. I'm

I came with my 3 best friends and all of our children. The space of the bell tent is huge there were 6 of us, we fit in 3 double air beds and still had loads of room! We loved everything about Flittermouse copse camping site. The grounds are really taken care of, the toilet is very clean, with hand sanitising stations and showers! We went exploring the local area, made a campfire outside the tent and had bbqs on for food. The hosts were very welcoming, always on hand and very helpful with our questions! Such a great experience and amazing memories were made.

I’d also like to add that you can park outside the tent which helped a lot when it came to things like charging phones!
