- Stargazing bell tents on an adults-only glamping site
- On the edge of the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
- Hot tub, firepit and stargazing roofs; bicycles available for hire
Fancy stargazing in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, cycling in the Blackdown Hills and spending nights in a private hot tub? If your answer is a big ‘yes’, you’re in the right place with Tone Valley View Glamping.
This adults-only glamping site is well-suited for a romantic getaway and a wildlife escape with plenty of creature comforts. There are views over the Tone Valley, so there’s a scenic backdrop at all times and access to your own personal stable, a short walk down a stone path (the site has provided a lantern for trips at night-time).
The horses have been moved out and replaced with a bathroom (including a shower, toilet, sink and towel rack) and kitchenette (including a fridge with an ice box, a sink, twin hot plate, toaster and kettle) – no sharing involved.
Roast something tasty over the firepit or retire to a hot tub after a day out in the Blackdown Hills. The site has two push bikes available for a small price per day for the pair – and there are lots of walks and bike rides nearby.
If you want to warm the cockles around a firepit, the site provides wood, fire starters and matches at the start of your stay. There are more bundles of wood and fire starters available for a small cost in the stable.
At the end of the year, for every five bundles brought, the site funds the planting of one tree through the National Trust. The site also uses solar power and a power station (like a big power bank) runs the lights and charging points (limited to 350W at any time, so just enough for phones or tablets, but not kettles).
Each plot is marked out with baby hedges, still growing, and there’s a car parking area with a space for one car per accommodation and a wildlife-friendly hedge. There’s also mains electric heating, hot water and insulation.

The hot tub will need to be lit and heated by you during your stay. This will take between three and four hours when it is cold. The site can pre-light the hot tub and bring it up to temperature before your arrival on day one; an additional cost applies for this service.

Local attractions
Shake things up – an alternative to hiking or biking is visiting the local horse-riding centre (half an hour’s walk). If you prefer two feet to hooves, there are plenty of new terrains to tackle. The Quantock Hills (35 minutes’ drive) has trails past the coast, wild heathland, oak woods and ancient parklands.
An Elizabethan beacon is the prize view after an uphill climb to Culmstock Beacon (20 minutes). Tick off another monument at the Wellington Monument (45 minutes) too.
Got a taste for upbeat activities? Practice your watersports at Wimbleball Lake (45 minutes) or sharpen up your trampolining skills on the wall-to-wall trampolines at Flip Out Somerset (five minutes).
Axe Valley Wildlife Park (half an hour) is on-hand for animal fans, with chipmunks, flamingos and zebras among the recruits.
